Type of switch

The start switch should be a single pole momentary switch which engages a latching circuit. When you press the stop button it opens the latching circuit. The latching circuit is usually a relay, but it could be a centrifugal switch on the motor. I can't find a wiring diagram to be able to tell you for certain.

When under a load (such as bread dough) my locking latch will not stay locked. How can I adjust the latch or repair the problem?

Well I afraid that you will not like the answer. The locking latch on a tilt head mixer can only be fixed replaced or repaired by taking the motor head apart. The bottom from the top.

1 remove mixer from stand
2 remove silver drip ring
3 remove rear end cap
4 remove locking pin in the planetary
5 remove planetary
6 remove nine screws in bottom of mixer
7 separate top from bottom of motor head
8 do not tear gasket or you will have to replace it (buy on line)
9 inspect locking latch and tighten or replace as needed
10 check gear grease and replace if all hard or all runny
11 reassemble

Sorry this is not an easy fix but it is do-able. You will need throw away rags a nice flat work space and some patience. I f you have never done a mechanical fix to anything it should take you about two hours, if however you are mechanically inclined and not afraid to tackle new projects should take you about forty-five minutes. let us know if we can help you.

Where can I get a manuel for my hobart D-340 mixer?

What kind of manual do you need. The service manuals are only given to Hobart technicians while they are attending training classes for that paticular piece of equip. I have a parts manual w/ exploded views if needed. A operators manual/guide can be downloaded from Hobarts website. You will need Model, Serial & ML # or spec #.

The KitchenAid mixer switch shorted out and blew GFI

Hi.You could do the removal and replacement with new parts your self, if you are so inclined. Goto the kitchenaid website, do a search for your model #. If you don't know your model # use K45SSWH. Click on Manuals & Guides, look for the parts file and download the exploded drawings for the mixer. I've never opened one of these models so you'll have to do a logical dis-assembly starting with the first piece you remove. Best case is to take digital pictures of everything you remove. Lay these parts on a piece of cardboard in order of removal. Only remove the parts necessary to get to your problem. You will surely find some burned wiring, maybe some melted metal in the switch area. Determine what parts you need to replace, and order them soon. Experience dictates a wait of at least a month for your parts to arrive once they've been ordered. The pictures will come in real handy in a month's time. If you find that this solution has assisted you please rate it. Good luck! ricardok45
