I need help with my television. The picture has gone dark and I would like to be able to fix it and not buy another television.

I have had it since 06/01/2014 which means the warranty is expired. The picture has just gone bad. The sound is fine. But when I cut the tv on, there is a quick flash then dark screen. I can see a semblance of a picture if I get close to the screen or use a flashlight. My understanding is this might be an LED motherboard problem. If this is an easy fix, I sure would like to know how (in detail) how to do it. I have cut the power to the tv, cable box, wifi, and everything remotely connected. When powered back on, the problem still existed. Thanks, Stephen

Hi Stephen,
This is a case of backlight failure. Some of the LEDs in the backlight array have failed and causing this trouble. To repair it the LCD panel has to be opened and I am sorry You can not do anything about it yourself, because it is a highly delicate job and needs a fair degree of expertise. You will have to handover the job to some good local TV Tech.
Good Luck.

Hi frank, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. You need to try, what we call a Cold Start-up. What you do is unplug everything, and let it remain unplugged for one (1) hour. Then plug it all back in the outlet and start it up manually. Thanks for choosing FixYa....John

SOURCE: No picture on mu LG television.

Try the old flashlight test, turn off the lights in the room. Turn on the set and flash a bright flashlight on the screen. Do you see the image or is the screen totally black?? If you see the image, then most likely you have a backlight problem. Verify that you have 24V on the power supply for the inverter

Fault with its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

SOURCE: Led tv model Lg55la6205 flashes once when first powered on and won't show lit picture after. Sound is fine. I can see the tv showing live tv with a flashlight. What do I need to do to fix it?

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.

To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement.

SOURCE: I have a LG 47LN5750 that powers on, flashes a good picture for about 1/2 second, then goes dark. Still have sound & can see a picture with a flashlight shining on the screen.

Fault to the main power supply regulator section. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

No this set does not have a bulb, it has three crts, one is green, red blue, and if the colors are seperated this sounds like you have an issue with the convergence, this is common and will require service. If you want to attempt the repair you will need to repalce the two stk392 ic's on the left hand board looking from the back. They are not user servicable. If you are not experienced it electroinic repair i would suggust to get it serviced by a pro.

sitnlisten - yes it does appear your pix tube is getting weak, but we may be able to turn up the flyback alittle to brighten up the picture. If you take the back off you will see the flyback-large black unit with a wire going to the round rubber cap on the back of the pix tube.Look at the flyback there are usually 2 adjusters one marked focus the other screen, just turn up the screen a little bit at a time.If you turn this up too much you will wind up with retrace lines on the screen. You may also want to check the pcboard ass'y for a sub bright adjust, and same thing small adjustments. If this don't help your pix tube may be too far gone.I hope this helps. cooltek Feb.1/08
