They can be used indoors or out. The range depends on line of sight. Imagine a flashlight, if you can see the beam, you will be able to talk. How far is that? In reality, not far for these low power off the shelf with short antenna radios. Expect 0.5 to 1 mile, more if outside and flat, less if indoor and lots of walls.

My Taylor we 1502 is showing HH in the outside relative indicator. How do I get it to recognize the outside relative humidity %? Thanks

If the outside temperature is currently displayed, there may not be anything wrong with the we 1502 sensor. The HH indicates that the outside relative humidity is above 95%; that is a limit of the sensor's detection/accuracy range. You could try moving your we 1502 sensor to a dryer area where it isn't exposed to rain/other falling water or wait until things dry out.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the model for the base of your weather system for more information. The HH message applies to most Taylor weather systems. The manual for the Weather Guide Indoor/Outdor 1731 system is available here: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71QBC5RdcNS.pdf .

AC running time error F1 showing. what is the meaning of F1 & how to clear that

F1 is commonly a communication error between the indoor and outdoor units. Try turning off the power to the air con at the isolator outside or in the meter box for 15 to 30 minutes then switch on again. Sometimes, it resolves the problem. If not, its likely to be an electronic board fault. Either indoor or outdoor.

I have an Acurite weather station, model 02080, and when I place the lightning sensor outdoors as it states in setup, outdoor temp is indicated. How do I set it up to work properly?

The display has the internal sensor for temp and barometer, The 5 in one has the sensor for outdoors and shows temp, wind speed and direction, humidity and rain. With the added lightning detector having the additional temp sensor in it, the system is redundant. It is recommended to put the sensor outside for best results that t have the least interference and maximum range..

What does an OF symbol mean in the indoor temp window with no readings from the outside?

Based on a different, but similar, LaCrosse model (the WS-8611), it would appear to be an OverFlow indication, meaning that it's out of range. Here's a quote from that unit's manual:

SPECIFICATIONS:
Temperature measuring range:
Indoor : 14.2F to +139.8F with 0.2F resolution
(-9.9C to +59.9C with 0.1C resolution)
("OF.L" displayed if outside this range)
Outdoor : -39.8F to +139.8F with 0.2F resolution
(-39.9C to +59.9C with 0.1C resolution
("OF.L" displayed if outside this range)

It is likely that their convention remains the same across models, but I don't work for them, so I can't guarantee it.

I have some wires that came off on the outside unit and I can't figure out what goes where???

You have not said what model this is for. But as a rule, you have indoor to outdoor wiring, if you open the indoor unit they are labelled 1,2,3,4,5. The indoor wiring must correspond to the outdoor unit. So whatever is wired to 1 indoor must be same on outdoor.

Outdoor transmitting

These devices have a limited range, normally 20-30' (~6-9m) and that range is influenced by the material that separates them. Any metal structures in their path can shorten the useful range. Also, I think all of these transmit only a second or two every few minutes to conserve battery power.
