It is charged but I can't figure out what to do next. Instructions were thrown out. It doesn't turn on for more than a second.

plug into usb. Let charge for 2 hours.
Press power button for two seconds to turn on/off
Press button that looks like clock face to cycle between 1 5 15 minutes (small lcd will show)
Then pre power button once.
Green light shows is on, LCD shows how
many pictures taken.
Once you have taken pictures you have 15 hours to plug it into a pc and download them,
shows up like a memory stick. After 15 hours it loses memory and pictures.
If device is non-funtional, press recessed reset button in back. Then charge as above

I have the same camera and to my knowledge, a 'live' view with the LCD screen is not a feature with this camera. All pictures are taken through the eyepiece and then reviewed on the LCD screen. BC

no need to ask him questions a_m_j242 the man had suffered enough. if it doesn't come on, you might want to try to let it come in see its different. if still it doesn't work then we have serious issues... ti'll then.

New Camera, no picture on screen

This is normal for this camera. Think about it. The CMOS chip can't see through the mirror. After the shot is taken the electronic shutter exposes the CMOS chip and makes an image just like exposing film on a film type camera. Once you get used to it you may like it better. In outdoor or bright light situations it's difficult to view the LCD screen to frame the shot anyway.

LCD screen not on when camera on?

You hit the EVF/LCD button near the "eye hole". When this is pressed it will cycle viewing through either the optical viewfinder or the LCD screen. This display is controlled independantly on each of the modes: shooting, or viewing. This is so you can set the camera to view pics before taking them from the optical viewfinder and view pics once taken from the LCD or vice-versa.

Cannon s 500 Picture with Just lines

Hi,
This is a known issue with Canon, it's mentioned on their support pages, FAQ ID: 37383. Horizontal lines appear in the preview picture once the photo is taken. I have a Canon Ixus 500 and I rang Canon UK and they gave me a case number and list of authorised dealers via email for a free repair.
Hope this helps

The camera has a mirror lock up feature for cleaning the CCD sensor. You may have engaged it. Check your manual about this function

Nikon D50 LCD Display does not work

NatD, The D50 and indeed most SLR digital cameras [ I have a D40 ] does not allow you to take pictures using the LCD display ... this is by design, you are meant to use the viewfinder and the image you see through it is straight through the lens via a mirror block [ called a reflex pentamirror or prism ]. When the mirror is down such that you can see the image in the viewfinder it is obscuring the sensor [ the bit that takes the picture ] and when you take a shot the mirror lifts and the picture is recorded. Its this reason that DSLR's dont use the LCD to shoot, however there are a few now available that do let you do this, such as olympus, new panasonic one and higher end Nikon and Canon cameras. Hope this explains it without getting too detailed!
