No the oven is not newly installed

The click only happens once from the switch ( all other burners are working properly)

Only oven and broiler are not coming on (free standing pilot in oven is on)

    • Does the gas valve assembly include the temp. probe?

    • Is the probe also called the "oven thermostat"?

This is almost certainly a gas valve problem, the valve has a temperature probe that must be heated by the pilot or the gas valve will not switch on, either the probe is defective or the gas valve or the pilot is not adjusted correctly to heat the temperature probe.

in most cases the gas supply valve and probe come together as an assembly.

Hi there,

That can be two things, the thermostat or the ignitor. If it is a loud fast click it is the ignitor. If it clicks continually while the oven is operating it is defective and needs to be replaced. If it does it for a few seconds when you first turn the oven on it is operating as it should. If the click is more subdued and only does it every once in a while that is the thermostat and is operating properly. One last thought is this oven just recently installed? You may have air in the gas line and the oven flame is going out and continually re lighting itself, for this you need to purge the gas line.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

I have a Hardwick propane stove, 4 burners and oven. The stovetop burners work fine (need a match), but now the oven does not ignite despite the pilot light working fine. I have brushed the pilot light...

Hello Patrick,

WHen you turn on the oven/broiler does the size of the polot ligh increase in size??
the way it is suppose to work is...thier a small free standing polot light and when ya turn on the oven the size of the pilot is suppose to increase and heat a little bulb that is connected to a wire that is mounted to the pilot burner and when that bulb heats up it will allow the main gas to flow into the oven(not pilot burner).

If the size of the pilot does not increase it could be caused by a clogged pilot burner. the way to determine that is TURN OFF GAS SUPPLY...disconnect gas line from pilot burner and turn on gas to unit, light that tube with it disconnected from pilot burner and turn oven on and see if size of flame drastically increases...if it does turn gas off and remove and replace pilot burner
if flame sizedoes not increase the problem is going to be the thermostat

If the pilot does increase and heats the bulb on the pilot burner the problem will be with the gas valve that, that bulb in the pilot burner accathes to is bad .

now chances of the thersostat still being available is very slim if the pilot burner is clogged and needs replaced they are still available their is 2 of them one has the mounting plate on the left and one is on the right.
here is what they look like

oldtech2332_148.jpgPart number for this one is 1898-021 notice how the mounting tab is on the right

oldtech2332_149.jpgthis one is pt# 1898-022 the tab is on the left

That when performing a quick search on google is pretty much all that still available teh thermostat (would need model number) is doubtful to find also a good chance the gas valve is also no longer available

Good luck,
GENE

Hotpoint gas stove. burners work, oven and broiler do not.

Probably the safety valve. This unit broils and bakes off the same gas burner. A spark ignitor lights the pilot and this save gas because no standing pilot is needed. It takes a few minutes for the thermocouple bimetal combo to release the gas. When the temp gets to the desired rate then the bulb on the oven control closes off the flow of gas. To recap: The flow of gas comes from a regulator along a rail which supplys the gas to the top burners and the oven control. older models had pilot light tubing going down to the oven and to the top burners. This newer style uses a spark module to light off the top burners and the oven. So when yall turn the the oven on the spark ignitor lights the pilot first and then after the mercury bulf thermocouple heats up the bimetal inside the valve opens allowing gas to flow out to the pilot and ignite the gas burner. the temp rises and the mercury bulb oven control expands closing off the flow but not the gas safety valve. I would suspect the safety valve on this one.

How do i re ignite the pilot light

Hi

The surface on this range have standing pilots that must be lit initially. To light them:
1. Be sure the surface burner control knobs are in the "OFF" position.
2. Remove the grates and cook top.
3. Locate the pilot ports and light each of them with a match. Replace the cook top and grates.

Light the oven burner pilot in the following manner:
1. Be sure the oven control knob is in the "OFF" position.
2. Remove the broiler carriage.
3. Hold a lighted match at the top forward section of the pilot (See diagram). No adjustment is required.
4. Replace the broiler carriage.
Hope this helps...

Gas stove top works, broiler works, oven does not

is it electronic iginition? are you asking about top burner pilots? if so there are under the top in the middle beteen each side of the burners 1 pilot does burners on right and 1 on left. oven pilots are underneath you have to remove bottom door look in there at back and look up and you'll see it. if its a electronis ignition range you have no pilots!! glow coils and sparkers....

The oven pilot does not light. The broiler will not work. The only thing that does is the light. GE XL44 range. The burners light and the pilots stay lit.

If you have standing pilots, make sure the pilot for the oven/broiler is lit as well.  When you turn the thermostat up to call for heat, you should see the pilot get larger. That larger pilot flame heats a hydraulic sensor and opens the main burner valve.

Gas oven(tappen) with broiler draw. oven will not light, no pilot

if this is fairly new, there is a hot surface ignitor near the back of the burner in the bottom part of the oven. This can go bad. There is a connector that can be pulled apart where the ignitor meets the wiring harness. Ohm out the ignitor or have someone with a meter ohm it out. There should be resistance and not open. If open the ignitor should be replaced. If you have a broiling element, turn that on. If the broil element comes on then the ignitor is almost for sure the problem.
