Question about Gateway M-1628 Notebook

1 Answer

Have a new gateway m-1631u. I have set the power setting to the energy battery saving power. I also set it to have the brightness dimmed a bit due to my sensitive allergy eyes plus I have chronic migraines. my computer constantly changes to high performance and brightens.. all the time. I change it back to the other setting, 2 min later it changes back to high performance. HOW can I stop this? I NEED it to stop fluttering back to High Performance every few minutes?

Windows Vista Home Premium. I want it to stay on Power saver and it keeps swapping back to High Performance with the really bright screen. I can NOT handle the bright screen. I have chronic migraines and I HAVE to keep the screen brightness down low 100% of the time. I have not received any help on this issue as of yet. Thank you.

I have the same laptop, and the same problem. I went into the BIOS settings and disabled BIOS power management features. Windows can still use the power management features, but it is not competing with the BIOS doing the same thing.

This helped reduce how often the brightness pops back to max, but doesn't completely solve the problem. It will still go to max, and most of the time back to the set brightness after a second or two. Very annoying, but better than just being stuck at max brightness.

I think either the backlight inverter is buggy, or the driver that talks to the inverter is buggy. This is my biggest complaint with this laptop.

I have a Samsung 55in curved TV. It has auto dimming. In the evening with the lights out it dims to where it is difficult to see the picture. Can I get rid of the auto dimming?

If the brightness on your TV changes automatically (randomly dims and brightens), you may need to adjust the:
  • Eco Sensor function.
  • - And / Or -
    • Energy Saving function.
The Eco Sensor and Energy Saving functions adjust the brightness of the TV to reduce power consumption.
    • When you set the Energy Saving function to Auto, the TV changes its brightness automatically depending on what you are watching on the TV.
    • When you set the Eco Sensor to On, the TV changes its brightness automatically depending on the brightness of the room.

Dell Latitude e5410...brightness changes from dim to bright on it's own. Not using battery powered. What could be going on?

You could be manually brighting it. Hitting the FN and UP arrow and Down Arrows Dim and brightens the screen, But if it does it on it own check your settings on Power Options in the control panel and on the left you will see Create a power plan sure setting are set to Balanced then click on next. You now get to pick to dim it when plugged in or on battery. I change it to "Never" becuase i like to see the screen brighter save your setting and your done.

Why is the monitor screen very dim ?

Check your current software power settings profile from within your operating system. It could be possible to be set on something like "Save Energy" profile, meant to save your battery energy, even when you are plugged in, and reduce the energy to the components to minimum (even on CPU, HDD, screen, etc...) Change the power profile to something like "Best Performance" (or something like this, depending on your OS) but be careful when you run on batteries (and not on AC)

How to do energy saver dimming ?

Most modern dimmers provide normal energy savings. They reduce the total amount of watts consumed on the circuit. Many years ago, dimmers only reduced the watts consumed as light - making up the difference as heat in the dimmer switch. A 100W light turned down to 1/2 wattage at a dimmer switch resulted in 50 watts of light at the bulb, but 50 watts of heat was created in the switch. That was zero energy savings. The newer electronic dimmers will still let 50 watts be used as light, but only a few watts as heat in the switch.

To maximized energy savings, use of new cold cathode technology lights such as CFL (compact fluorescent lamp), LED (Light Emitting Diode), etc. types are suggested. You can use these lamps on a dimmer to furrther reduce the amount of energy used - but only if the lamp indicates that it is dimmable.

If the lamp or fixture does not specifically state it can be used on a dimmer, don't. This includes powering a light through a dimmer that is set to maximum brightness. Use a standard non-dimming switch instead.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Remove screensaver from TV

Hello

You are refering about energy saving function I thinks. To energise this function, surf through its menu and come towards energy saver.

This power saving feature reduces the backlight

brightness level. The options are:

OFF-the feature is off and the power consumption

is normal.

LOW-power saving level is low and the backlight

brightness level is lower than normal.

HIGH-power saving level is high and the backlight

brightness is set to the lowest level.

1 Use the CURSOR Up or Down keys to highlight

Energy Saver. Press ENTER.

2 Use the CURSOR Up or Down keys to select Off, Low,
or High.

NOTE:The Energy Saver settings level varies with
the Picture / Sound mode.
OK.

Adjusting brightness for my gateway 3520 laptop

Most likey the dim screen while running on batteries is the power saving feature. This can be changed in the operating system configuration. Assuming you have Windows, you should be able to right click on the desktop, click Properties then the Screen Saver tab. I have a desktop so I won't see the same details as a laptop. Just go to the appropriate settings & change them to give you higher performance for use with the battery. You may also be able to adjust the brightness with the Function key & another key combination. Look at the blue or green colored silkscreening on some of the keys on your keyboard & maximize the brightness while running on batteries only. Next time you reboot, it should remember your previous settings. Hope this works for you.
