We see this all the time. You tried the best test. So, it is the audio jack. Common failure. They can be repaired by a competent tech at a repair shop. VERY difficult to replace on your own. The part is cheap, the labor is high because Motorola does not want you (or us) working on those radios. Motorola has a flat rate around $115 (ouch) and our shop averages less than that, but they were not designed to be worked on. Next radio, contact us for a more repairable model. Free advice.

1) Be certain the radio is shut off when plugging in the audio device.
2) On most units, press the PTT button to turn off the VOX feature.
3) If you are not planning to use VOX. Turn the VOX feature off. Follow the programming instructions which came with the radio.

Hope this helps.

1) You can try the manual reset by pressing the PTT, SB1 and SB2 simultaneously for 3 seconds while turning the radio on. Then reconnect the radio to your computer and try reading the radio. If you are able to read the radio, you can then reprogram the radio.

2) If the above does not work, try cloning a known good codeplug (saved archive of another good unit) into the radio without reading it first.

3) If none of the above work, your radio will need to be seen by Motorola or an authorized dealer with knowledge of the RDX series.

Hi, actually I think you have answered your own query... in that the BT headsets, well NOT ALL, are NOT compatible with the Radios.
Usually if they do not "Just work" then they never will.
There are however ones that DO work, my advice is to contact Motorola and ask them for advise on exactly which ones will work.

above is a link for a manual.

SOURCE: motorola talkabout MR350 headset only sends audio and can not recieve

Likely not compatible. One thing to try is to make certain the transmitting unit is turned OFF when you initially plug in the headset. Sometimes if a headset is plugged into a radio when it is already ON, the headset will appear to be in VOX (voice activated) mode and will not allow the user to receive. Also, if this headset has an inline PTT, it may not be compatible with the radio and you would need to use the PTT on the radio.

If this doesn't work, you would need to use the TalkAbout headset designed for the MR350.

Best regards.

Motorola CLS 1110. headset audio gets very quiet (whisper levels) after a few hours of use. it works perfectly for the first couple hours. I have tried reseating the headset, powering on and off.

This is likely because your radio's battery has lost enough power that it cannot fully power the headset and the radio both. Or there is a component in the headset or radio which is getting overheated and will not function properly. Try the headset on another radio at the time of failure and see if it is still in failure mode on the other radio. Or try changing the battery to a fully charged battery and see if the headset then functions correctly. These test will help you determine which component is failing.

Can get headset to work right

check your radios settings, this should be available in a menu on the radio... the user manual does not show a setting for non vox operation of the head set, (as this maybe a version difference it may be available in the menu) so if it is not available in the menu with the rest of the settings it is not an option.

We recently purchased the Motorola MS350 radios with headsets. We plugged the headsets in and turned the power on, but are unable to communicate back and forth in handsfree mode. We can switch to PTT and...

The three things which come to mind are:
1) Is the headset the VOX headset intended for the radio model? Sometimes the rings on the plug do not match the internal points of contact if it is not the intended headset. Not all headsets are VOX capable.
2) Is the headset plugged in all the way. (You mentioned plugging in and then turning on. This is good. You must always have the radio turned off when plugging or unplugging an audio device.)
3) Try pressing the PTT on the headset cord one time before switching the dip switch to VOX. (Assuming you have a headset with the small box in the line.)

Lastly, if you continue to have difficulties, contact Motorola at the 800# provided in the user guide. They should be able to assist you.

Need headsets for the T 5530 Talkabout radios

  • Motorola two way radios were pretty standard across the board with their accessories and chargers. If it worked in one it was pretty much guaranteed to work in a different model one. This link here http://www.ewingenter.com/accessories.htm is a great place to get aftermarket Motorola two way radio accessories. You have your choice of several types or headset/mic combos on there.

Need the DPL or CODE for Motorola RDV2020

The RDV2020 is programmable to many different PL and/or DPL codes. Here is a link to the manual: http://www.twowayradiosfor.com/pdf/RDX-Non-Display-manual.pdf

You can read about reprogramming codes pages 36-44. Or simply reading out the code on page 40.

We use these radios in a race car. They work fine until you hook up the headset for the spotter to use and it drains down the battery real fast.Brand new batteries.

It is possible the headset you are using is not the one engineered for the radio, and draining the battery. Or this radio is being transmitted on heavily and running down the battery. You might try changing headsets and see if the problem clears up. Not all headsets compatible with other Motorola Radios will work with the BPR40.

Motorola H-500

If you've set the audio input and output to the bluetooth and it still doesn;t work then you probably should try a different headset -- non-Motorola. Their radios sometimes are too weak. You can also try sitting closer to the PS3.
