Hi, I was riding this weekend and when i got to a steep hill i attempted to shift down from my large ring at the front, but this failed. When i am pressing the inside lever to shift down the is no click anymore. I have detached the cable from the derailleur to see if loosening it would help, but this has not made a difference. Anyone else had this problem?

This is somewhere between solution and clarification request: if you disconnect the cable from the derailleur and shift up and down, does the shifter click as it should? If not, you need to disassemble and clean your shifter.

How do I download automatic transmission shop manual from Library 629?

i would,nt have thought it would be a good thing to manually shift into first gear whilst going downhill, only use manual shifting from start off ,and overtaking but then the kickdown should be ok for that , not to be used as a brake , how steep is this hill ? i know this isn't what you asked but i dont think theres a problem with it not doing that

When do I change gears on my Giordano Women's fitness Cruiser 7 gear and what is each gear for ? [email protected]

When you're pedaling fast and easy and want to go faster, shift to the next gear up. When you're pedaling slow and hard and want to pedal easier, shift to the next gear down. First gear is for climbing steep hills. 7th gear is for going fast. Hope this helps. Happy riding!

Hi I'm an owner of a 1998 Honda Oddysey. I would like know the mechanics of using its automatic gear transmissions and specific function. For example when do I use D3 or D2 etc... And how do I shift...

Hi,
Gear usage.
The Drive is for normal driving.
D2 is for hill/steep climbing drive.
D3 is for hill/steep going down drive.
If you have overdrive button, use it when you exceed 60mph.
That's all you have to do when you see roads that is going up nor down.

Thaks for asking FixYa!

I just bought a road bike with Shimano ST-2300 Dual Control STI, 16-speed. What gears should I use for uphill vs. downhill, as well as level ground? I know how to shift, but I am unsure of what gear is...

I base my gear selection on my level of exertion. If I am riding with a buddy and am unable to speak more than one or two words at a time I will shift to a lower gear. For most hills you want to be on the small front chain ring and select the gear on the rear cassette based on the afore mentioned exertion level. If you have a bicycle computer with a cadence sensor,or heart rate monitor, you would select gears that have in whatever rpm or bpm range you want to ride in. Really steep hills will have you on the small chain ring and the big cog on the rear. Downhills and on flats, pick a again based of you exertion level.

I have a broken spoke on the back wheel of my bike, and the wheel wobbles from side to side. Is it dangerous to ride up a steep hill, I need to get home, and am wondering if it would be best to walk it or...

This depends mostly on your weight. Yes, it's safer to walk, but if you are a small person, and you can ride the bike on a level surface (like a parking lot) without the wobble increasing, then try pedaling hard in the parking lot. If that works ok, then you can probably get by. Don't ride fast. Don't ride down a steep hill. If you have hand brakes, and your front brakes are good, then don't use the rear brakes. But don't go over the handle-bars by using the front brakes hard! If you are not a small person, then walk the bike. Good luck.

Shimano 105. Front derailleur won't shift down

It sounds like you could have two different problems. Your derailleur has become contaminated or your shifter may need to be lubed. Either way, the likely solution is the same. The best solution to get the derailleur operating again is to spray it with GT-85 or PB blaster and manually move in back and furth until it is working again. The same goes for the 105 shifter, spray GT-85 inside the shifter by compressing the brake lever and spraying towards the head of the shift cable. This will solve a non-functioning shifter many times.

The only other problem that fits is the limit screws could be wrong or the deraileur is in the wrong position. This would not be the case unless someone adjusted your derailleur before the ride you started have that problem. Or if the derailleur has moved. Both of which require the derailleur to be fully readjusted.

Hope this helps. Thank you

95 Landcruiser Turbo warning light comes on under heavy load

If you are "lugging" the engine, you will get increased exhaust temperature (EGT), this will trigger your "turbo" light(not a good thing), ideally you should have an aftermarket "pyrometer" fitted to your car, this will show you the optimum revs etc you should be using in any given circumstance.Or revise your driving technique, ie change down gears earlier.
The turbo should be idled down after long trips or heavy towing, this allows the oil temps to stabilise and turbine speeds to stabilise, thus idle for 2-5 minutes.
