If your DC28 picks up from the wand and hose, but not from the cleaner head, it's likely you have a blockage in the cleaner head or in one of the internal ducts.

In normal use, both of DC28's lifetime filters should be washed at least once every 3 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them.

How to clean the filter

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC28 has two washable filters engineered to last the lifetime of the machine in normal use. These should be washed at least once every 3-6 months as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for both filters to dry completely before replacing them in the machine.

If your DC28 shut itself off while you were using it, it sounds like it may have overheated. Like most Dyson vacuums, it includes a safety device which shuts the vacuum down for protection if it begins to overheat. This could be due to a blockage, or because the filters are overdue for a wash.

DC28 has two filters, which should be washed at least once every 3 months as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for them to dry completely before replacing them:

If it doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, it's possible that there's a blockage in the system, and you may need to give the filters a wash. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

Sorry to hear your DC28 Animal is not picking up. To check everything is correct with your machine, please ensure the filters are clean, and the cleaner is free of blockages. This guide from the Support section of our website shows the easiest way to do this:

Please note the motor exhaust, where filtered air is returned to the room, is located beneath the clear bin. Exhaust air will never come out of the top of the handle.
