I have the temp set at 77 in zone 3, (have 4 zones), but temp is 73 with the ac dumping cold air in the zone. how do I fix this?

It's possible that your "slave controller" is malfunctioning. There are 4 thermostats, 1 master & 3 slave controllers(not slang but actually what they call them and I don't know why). The #3 that shows 73° actual temp, and set at 77°, is probably malfunctioning. Remove the R or Y wire inside the #3 t-stat and see if the airflow stops "dumping" in that area. Also possible that the damper controller in the duct has malfunctioned. This will take some experience to know what to do, not easy to explain.

What are the recommended settings as far as % of humidity and room temperature? Does this set automatically?

Humidity is said to be good at 50% RH and temerature at 77*F. Air looses humidity when it is heated or cooled. Extremely humid conditionals it difficult for air conditioners to cool the air.
The temperature to be comfortable in varies from person to person.

My Carrier thermostat will not allow the temp setting to go below 73 when in air conditioner mode. It is a model TC-NHP-01 non programmable. Can that bottom temperature setting be adjusted?

I'm sure. You must locate a manual and enter the settings menu. There you will find options for maximum heat and minimum cooling adjustments. Good Luck.

Everyday the central air unit keeps our house at a comfortable 73 degrees. Every evening, despite the thermostat setting of 72, the house heats up to 77-79. What's the problem?

Is the sun hitting the t-stat during the day? If its a programmable unit check the programming, perhaps its set for energy sving at night

Hot air blows when system turned to heat, when control is moved to Defraost or combination heat/defrost air temp cools down, what could cause this?

Make sure you have the heat selection set all the way to heat. In Ford and Dodge vehicles, when you select Defrost the AC compressor actually kicks in and if you have the temperature selection set to the cool side it will push cold air to defrost your windshield.

Hunter model # 44155c - set on 73 - cool air comes out- but never kicks off and never gets down to 73

Check the temperature drop from your return temperature to your supply air temperature. Your supply air temperature should be 16 - 20 degrees cooler than your return air temperature. If it is not, your problem may be with your air conditioning unit and not your thermostat.
Prior to calling a service tech, here are some items you can do that may correct the problem for you:

- Ensure your air filter is clean and properly in place
- Ensure your evaporator and condenser coils are clean......clean as necessary.
- Ensure your return grilles and supply registers are unobstructed.
- Ensure your ductwork connections are tight and undamaged.

I hope this information is very helpful to you moving forward.

Can not get temp below 77

Is the thermostat set up for automatic change over from heat to cool? If so, the heat is probably set for 75, you will need to lower the heat setting in order to Lower the cooling. the stat won't let these settings with in 2 degrees of each other so the heating and cooling don't fight each other.

Cooling Problems

Your filter is clogged. Not the one at the bottom of the unit. The one above the unit. It is like a raditor coils, kind of a bear to get to. We have cats and dogs the filter gets most of the hair but not all.Usualy about 6 bolts to take out.The proublem will be at the bottom of the top filter.
