Question about Datacard Group SP75 Color Card Printer

1 Answer

We have a Datacard SP75 printer, and it is running fine. However, it started this morning making a loud humming sound (like a fan with the barrons going bad). Any idea what this might be?

Does it do it while idling, when it's attempting to cool the printhead or both? If it's the fan, you should be able to get a replacement from your local dealer for less than $20

There is a fan in the top of the printer, that may very well be the problem

My datacard group SP75 color is printing cards with a white line all across it_

First, try to determine if it is printing a white line, or if an obstruction is possibly scratching the card surface; if it is an actual white line, then you probably have a pixel out in your printhead. Your printhead must be replaced.

Air bubbles in laminate

Do you have a dual lamination station in your printer? How old is the printer?

There may be contaminates on heated platen that is causing the bubbles. I would go into the printer settings and try various settings such as LAM1-BOTH SIDES and LAM2-NONE then LAM1-NONE LAM2-BOTH SIDES to isolate the issue

Printer Head Cleaning

It's in the blue plastic cover. Power down the SP75. Open cover to see the printhead. You'll see a green stripe. The printhead is in front of the stripe. Use an alcohol pen to run back and forth over the printhead. Do not drip alcohol onto the print ribbon. Allow a minute or two for alcohol to dry before reclosing the cover.
