Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

Maytag neptune electric dryer. One of the baffles is loose and I think screw is hitting the outside panel of the dryer (loud thumping) during each rotation. I think I can screw it back securely, but don't know how to lift the top panel without damaging it. I know it hinges in the back, but dont know how to pop it loose.

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Fixya.com

To remove the top, you usually have to push a putty knife in at the top corners, from the front. This pushes a spring catch. On some Maytags, the front comes off, screws below the door area, and it swings out.

God Bless.

Inside the drum one of the tumblers is loose how do you tighten it up?

Hello,
You can tighten those baffles by getting to outside of drum to thighten the screws that hold them to drum. to get access to outside of drum;
Remove screws from door hinge

remove screws from other side of inside door as they are exaclty opposite the ones for hinges

pull off from panel by putting putty knife/screwdriver in seam between front panel/cabinet just below the sloped part of the top and pop off front panel

in the upper corners of the top/front panel is a clip that looks likea inverted "7" or if ya will a up side down "L" remove screws from the clips and remove the clip

now ya can raise top to get to outside of drum

rotate drum by hand in CLOCKWISE direction to turn drum so ya can get to each baffle

Thanks for using FixYa.com,
Gene

Maytag neptune dryer one of the dividers the screws came loose how can I fix this without calling for service

You are probably referring to the drum baffles. The baffles securing screws can be retightened by raising the top which requires the removal of the front panel. Click on the link below for the detailed steps.

The beater bar in my Neptune dryer modeL # MED5500AYW has come off and needs to be replaced.

It sounds like you are referring to the drum baffles when you say "beater bar". If that is so, you need to remove the front panel then raise the top cover to access the baffles mounting screws outside the drum. Below is the link to the procedure I posted previously.

Maytag neptune dryer making banging noise on each rotation on the left side facing the front. its almost like a thumping noise what do i need to do please?

The drum baffle screw has unscrewed itself and the head is thumping against the inside top panel. Pull door, lift lid, rotate drum to find screw sticking out and tighten.

My Maytag dryer has a loose dryer drum baffle. How to i get to it inorder to tighten the screws? Do I remove the top

unplug Dryer, open door, Remove two door hinge screws going into front panel, remove two screws on opposite side. Grab front panel on upper sides and twist and pull front panel out. Panel sits on two clips at bottom so you have to tip panel out to unhook from the bottom. You will see a metal hook with two screws in it that holds down the top of the dryer on each side. Remove the screws and hook bracket. Make sure you note how it reinstalls. Top will now lift up and lean back against a wall. It is hinged in back. You can now easily get to the drum baffle screws. BAFFLE INSIDE THE DRUM IS LOOSE. HOW DO I TAKE FRONT OF CABINET OFF SO THAT I CAN GET TO OUTSIDE OF DRUM TO TIGHTEN SCREWS HOLDING BAFFLE?

Open the front door where you load the machine.
Look towards the top where the door normaly closes, there ususualy two screws that you can unscrew there.
Once loose the top pannel should come off, which allowes you to remove the front panel with 2 screws as well.

Good luck!

A loud baning noise while in operation

There is probably a loose scew on one of the 3 drum baffles, and it hits the cabinet as it turns. Just remove the 4 screws inside the door frame and pull both sides of the front panel toward you (pull from the top of each side of the front panel). Then lift the panel from the bottom brackets and set it aside. Remove the 2 screws holding the top down (one on each side, they atatch a green bracket that holds the top). Then hinge the top up. Rotate the drum by hand until you see which screw is sticking out and tighten it. make sure all 6 baffle screws are tight while you have it apart. Put it back togather, plug it in, and your done. ALL service is perfromed from the FRONT. Shock Hazard Warning! Open the dryer door aand remove the screws that hold the door hinges, remove the door, and on the opposite side that have just 2 screws where the door would attach if it was converted to the oppsite opening direction, and remove the front panel. Remove the front bulkhead,(the internal drum opening panel), by removing the 4-5/16" screws that hold it to the outer side panels. Reach back to the rear of the motor and release the tension on the idler and drum belt. Remove the belt and lift drum slightly upward and remove from the unit. You should then observe 2 rollers about 3" in diameter positioned at about 5 and 7 o'clock. The roller at the 5 o'clock position is most likely bound up or not free-rolling. TRU-ARC spring clips,(you may need to purchase), retain the rollers on the shaft and need to be carefully removed and saved for reaasembly. Inspect roller at 7 o'clock for free operation. Purchase what you need and reassemble.

Hope this helps!

the top cover is fastened by spring like tabs on the machine rear. the front edge of the top merely clips to the front panel. the top needs to be removed to gain access to the bolts that hold the front panel on. these are inside the top corners of the machine. once these are out, the front cover should just pull up to remove. there may be a light connection and the door switch wires here too. then you can get to the screws that hold the baffles in place.
