Question about HP Compaq nx6110 PC Laptop
It keeps hanging but starts working when pressed on the top of touchpad or harddisk
IMight have been due to Virus attack and there is no proper updated antivirus upgradation in the laptop.
Or the problem is related with power supply where there will be loose contacts or the laptop is configured in sleep mode when it was idle for morethan a fixed time.
Better check up and show to the nearest authorized delaer to set the problem solved. If the laptop is under warranty, please ask them to replace with the latest one, which the dealer will agree to do the same at free of cost.

Check the hard drive connection. it is probably loosed or the connector is bad or you are experiencing a bad sector on your hard drive.

Locate the "Fn" key in the lower right or left corner of the laptop keyboard.
The "Fn" key typically has different colored text on it or the key itself is a different color.
Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.
The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.
Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key simultaneously to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.
Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works.
Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.
hope this helps

I had this problem (hanging on the screen with F10 = ROM based setup) for a while on my HP nc6220 laptop. Was taking several attempts to boot. Replaced the hard drive. Ran virus and malware detection, all clean. Stumbled on to the posting where someone wrote about applying pressure by the touch pad seemed to help. It did. Then the problem gradually got worse. Thought maybe there was something loose. Downloaded the disassembly procedure from hp.com. I found the 2 ground contacts under the touch pad had oxidation on them. Cleaned them with a pencil eraser. Reassembled the laptop and have not hung once. Everything runs faster as well. This is not for the novice, but someone with a little experience should be able to get through the process. Hope this helps someone.
