Question about Hitachi VME535LA 8mm Analog Camcorder

1 Answer

Sound when I play back the current tape I am still recording with, it's fine-no problem--but all of my other tapes which have played fine in the past--now they have a line running through them & absolutely no sound on all of them--(it's an 8mm Hitachi camcorder--VM-E535LA) I don't think it's the camera, because the newer tape plays back fine. Is there a tracking problem on the other tapes & how would I adjust this(I can't find a tracking button on the camera) please help!!!

Thanks for the reply. I tried the head cleaning cassette (I'm sure it was well overdue); however, is there anything else I can do? The several tapes I have still have no sound & a line running through it. I'm wondering why these tapes played fine through the last few years(even with dirty heads), but now all of them are doing this. (plus the current tape I am recording on has had no problems at all playing back)

    Any advice is appreciated---Thanks!

It's not tracking -- it's dirty heads -- you can purchase an 8mm head cleaning cassette and use it to cure these problems. Tapes recorded with the dirty heads may still have issues afterwards.

If you have a friend with an 8mm camcorder or playback deck, you can see if the video is playable on their equipment. It could be a matter of degaussing the playback head, which is usually something an owner cannot do. Another option is to send the tapes off for transfer to DVD, I've seen rates as low as $20 each. Magnetic media, like 8mm video cassettes, breaks down over time and becomes unplayable-- but usually after an extended period of time. I had some tape lose the coating after 15 years or so. I've had my 8mm camcorder for 8 years and the tapes are fine.

My vcr plays commercially-recorded tapes fine, but tapes recorded on it or another VCR play with the sound distorted. The picture seems fine.

Sounds like its mechanism need some alignment. Guide pole alignment. Contact any service technician. This is technically skilled work.

My JVC DR-MV150B plays prerecorded VHS tapes fine.

Try opening the front hatch of the tape by pressing the small, square button on the right or left (short) side of the tape. Check the black tape inside for any marks, dirt, scratches, tears, etc. If the tape is fine then your unit needs to be cleaned with a tape cleaner available at any electronics specialty or retail store. Good luck to you!

Play back on Sanyo mr-929 reel-to-reel tape recorder is backwards

I also have an MR-929. The information that you need is in the 'Stereophonic 4 track stereo''. As stereo is only two tracks, there is another 2 tracks in addition to the one you are listening to. Wind the entire reel to the empty spool, and then play that. As you have to physically turn the reel over to do so, you should then hear the other tracks (or track, if recorded in mono).
I use my 929 to play my parents recording of my family from the late 60s, which were recorded on a valve (tube) Ferguson machine, which had a green "magic eye" level indicator, which as a child I found fascinating!

Sony 8mm camcorder will record sound but no video

Since it is playing the tape, the play head is ok. Now recording is done by recording heads so you may have a clogged heads or damaged recording heads. Try to clean the heads with head cleaning tape to see if it would help. 1. remove the tape and leave the door open. 2. using a canned air, blow out any dusts in the tape area. 3. run head cleaning tape for about 10 seconds and no more. 4. try the recording.. If this does not resolve, you may have a damaged or heavy clogged video heads. Take it to nearest video technician for a diagnostic. -James

Old tapes won't play in different Handycam

Were your tapes recorded in extended play? Sometimes that will make it impossible for a different tape deck to play it back correctly. The tolerences on Hi-8 are very small so it is possible that a tiny alignment difference will make it impossible to play back a pre-recorded tape. Try fast forwording and rewinding the tape and try it again. Also try playing it from different parts of the tape. Go to the middle of the tape and try it there.

Poor EP playback

hi sir
the speed in EP is differ from sp ,EP it is much slow then all quality would be less cause you are using less magnetic particles on the tape so here are many reasons for bad recording
first may be you have to clean video heads
or ,you have to clean the path of the tape in the recorder there are some metal guides that turnes with the tape to get it rounds the heads they may be dirty
or clean the capstain pinch roller and its metal roller that makes it run ( the capstain roller )
or you should have new heasd drum sir

Hi8 playback problem

your guides have come loose , probably - the digital sound will be next to go because the bottom edge of your tapes are being folded - open the cassette tape lid by pressing the small pin near one hinge and gently lifting the door - if there are any creases ? get the guides aligned ! to protect your library ; ( if there are no creases , try a sony d8 cleaning tape - once ! before getting a repair quote ) ;
