Question about Toshiba PA2611U External Floppy Drive

1 Answer

External drive shuts down the Toshiba 460CDX/2.1. OS is 2000. I do not have Admin rights to add Hardware, the Admin is no longer available. The CD writes does not write to a CD only plays CD's. I need to get data off this machine. USB floppy is not recognized. The external floppy use to work, but a 3.5 disk got stuck in it and I removed it, now the external shuts down the laptop when it is attached. Do you think it is the floppy or the port that is damaged? The external floppy is a PA2611U and I'm having difficulty finding this. I just odered one and was sent PA26611U, which does fit.

The external cd drive should be having both CD and DVD options, that is Combo Drive or Super CD Drive where you can write all your data on to the DVD - eitherway it can be done. You can copy the data from DVD / CD on to your toshiba laptop.

Best solution is replace the exisitng laptop to a latet one with Vista option. Will solve your probllm. Otherise try to contact the local authrozed hardware engineer to assist you in solving this problem.

Good Luck.

How to get driver for cd dvd unit

The optical disc drivers are part of the OS. The available drivers and software for Windows Vista, the original OS for the DV6748us are here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?cc=us&lc=en&product=3648284 . Select your version and click Next.

Windows XP and the subsequent versions of Windows all had the drivers for internal optical drives and most external drives in the Plug and Play control. You may need to go to the Device Manager and check the device status then manually update the driver. (For Vista, click Start > Control Panel (in the right hand column, then under Hardware look for the Device Manager link.) Expand the section for optical drives and look for a triangle with a red x or a yellow exclamation point. Right click on the device and click on the Update Driver button. If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the driver then shut down the computer. Check if Windows loads the driver correctly when you reboot. If you continue to have problems, the drive or cables might be bad. Consider getting a new optical drive (slim if you want to stay with an internal drive).

I hope this helps.

Driver missing for cd dvd drive

1st, do you have access to internet ? I'm assuming you don't have a utilities disc for your computer, and that it's a pc, not a mac.Go to control panel; add hardware;cd drive or dvd drive see if model is listed.(You may right click on computer;properties in order to find model). If it is listed, click update drivers...usually you will be asked if you have a disc, of which you don't...then you may get 2 options; choose from a list or for windows to check web for available drivers.
(Most cd/dvd drives work well with windows generic drivers)

Restoration disks

You should'nt have a problem installing as long as you format the hardrive first, as windows can only id the hardware profiles once installed, but you may not be able to do this if it's only a restore disc. This hardware recognition process can be sorted easily if required to validate windows by going on line when installed and microsoft will read the o/s product code automatically and validate.
