Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Updated to firmware 2.8 when system said it couldn't play Vegas 2 without doing so.
DL'd from Sony site to empty flash drive with appropriate folders and all appeared to go well in the update.
System restarted and when we inserted disc to play game all that happened is the animated icon at the top right just cycled endlessly.
System is now refusing to play ANY type of video and most audio from any source. It will attach to internet and dl demos but can't seem to see them once it does to play them.
Have tried system restore from both the standard menu as well as the startup menu as many have suggested, but that does not seem to restore to older version of firmware.
Sony, always so helpful, have said yes we can fix that. Send your system along with $150 and we'll fix it.
As has been pointed out by so many, if they broke it why do I have to pay to get it fixed.
Apparently, if you hold down the eject button for 10-15 seconds, the hard drive should reconfigure it.
Go to your settings and enable Atrac plus WMA. That might fix the video error.
Hate to say it, but if that doesn't work, you'll need to format the hard drive. Save the latest update to a USB flash drive and follow instructions once format is completed.
For me, the updating the hardware not using HDMI seemed to help my PS3 work, but not my Blu-ray. Plugging the PS3 into a regular TV did the trick..twice.
Whatever this latest update SONY threw out has effected a lot of people. One of my friends sent his in for a "price".
Hope this helped in some small way.

I saw your post and was glad to see I was not the only one having this issue since 2.80. I told them that after having read your post and a number of other posts on other forums, that there was no way that I was paying to have it repaired, as I was fine until their firmware release. Finally, spoke with a manager, who actually walked me through the eject fix, and a host of others, disabling 24Hz, etc., to no avail. She looked at my record, saw that I had not had to send my system in for service previously, and granted a "One-Time Gesture of Good Will." Hopefully, you can get the same as well as others, and maybe finally they will see that they do have a real problem with their latest firmware DOWNGRADE. Good luck.

click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
