How do I get rid of of black dirt that is coming out of steam holes?

Normally when water is put inside steam irons, it get stored in tank then if thermostat knob is set for steam then water moves to bottom heated portion of iron. Water converts to steam as base plate is hot, heated steam comes out through perforated holes. If holes are blocked due to scale formation steam flow is blocked. The descaling has to be done as per instructions given on descaling wax manufacturer. sometimes if water does not enter through a rubber washer that is water tank to heated bottom portion then also steam will not get generated hence no steam. Please check above points and identify the problem.

The stem rod for the steam control is choke or faulty. These prevent the water going onto the sole plate that why no steam.It is possible that there is dirt that has accumulated into the stem of the steam button and is sticking the button. It is better to remove the lid and make a good cleaning to free the movement. use good spray of jet air, use WD40 to remove dirt and free.---------------- Pull the button up. You may have to coax it up; You can pry it back to the up position with a needle. Grasp it firmly and pull it straight off (it is fitted in place by friction only). Below the button is a stem that operates the valve, gently full it back up with a pair of needle nose pliers (careful - the stem is plastic). Replace the button (align the stem into the hole on the bottom of the button. Cycle the button a few times with water in the reservoir.It seems like it sticks when the iron is left unused for a period of time; or the dirt get collected under the button.As if the valve sticks when dry. Often times our household drinking water is 'hard' or has iron in trace amounts in it- While it may not be toxic to our bodies-- when you boil it off in the steaming process, the minerals remain behind, and make a brown or dirty residue in the chamber. That residue will often 'bleed' out into the passages of the steam holes.
Have you ever used Vinegar to try to clean out the chamber?
Tho this might helb get rid of the residue-- it does tend to move the debris into the steam passageway-
So-- unless you have some way of spending considerable time and effort cleaning it out-- It may ruin more white shirts in the process than it is worth.
Note: Using distilled water will extend the life of a steaming iron-- but eventually, even the best treated Steam iron will need to be replaced!

Possible that there is corrosion inside the steamer unit . The best is to keep filling and puttingthe set on till the dirt ceases to come over.
It can be due to even some foreign particles that is lodged in and making is combine with steam to produce the dirt colour.
If you can use a flexible bowden to clean into the holes just to see if there is any block it will be useful.

You're seeing hard water deposits and maybe a little rust. Use some CLR and pour in the iron and let it sit with it off. Shake it a bit and let it clean it all out, then rinse with clean water. (Vinegar will work too)

take hose off from iron end,press iron button ,breifly! keep tight hold of hose [best to put towel around hose while holding]see if steam comes out.if not hose could be blocked, then take hose from solenoid end and press button .if no steam comes out the solenoid is either faulty or the valve hole inside is blocked,turn off power and take nut off top of solenoid ,check spring and plunger for condition.the small hole may be blocked in the solenoid housing,try a needle in the hole to clear any blockage.

It's a possibility that you iron steam making elements are caked with lime and possibly the steam holes as well.

Purchase some "Lime Away" and dilute it 50/50 and pour it into your steam iron (drain all the old water out first and leave the iron unpluged) let sit for an hour or so and drain out, fill it again with clear water shake and drain out do this a couple of time then turn on the steam and see if it works properly, use the first time on an old towel to be sure all the chemical has been rinced out.
