Hp compaq nx9010 audio mute button and LED...

Hi,

I've been given a hp compaq nx9010 notebook computer which works perfectly except the audio mute button and LED don't work at all. The up/down buttons work fine. What could be wrong? The switch feels OK and has a good 'click'. My background is in electronics so I should be competent to fix this if it's a hardware problem. If you have any thoughts I would be very grateful! Even better could someone email me a service manual please? richardgroves@btinternet.com

Thanks,

Richard

-   I have just wiped the hard drive and reinstalled from scratch using the HP operating system and drivers disc. Although I have installed all the hardware drivers, I must admit that I have tried not to install all of the system software utilities. I will check to see if I have missed something important. Any help appreciated.

Hello Rich,

Hope this helps. If you can control muting on and off at Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Audio properties then you only need the utility software to activate the function keys. Please check at manufacturer's website for the keboard or similar function key utilities.

Best regards,

Clinton Tam Jan 21, 2005 13:59:29 GMT 10 pts As for the problem with Wifi LED and mute LED issues, you need to do the following:

1. Uninstall the Notebook Utilities from Add/Remove Programs.

2. Uninstall the One Touch software.

3. Reboot.

4. Reinstall One Touch Software.

http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/17837.html

5. Reboot.

6. Apparently the One Touch doesn't enable all the buttons on the ze53XX unless the Notebook Utilities software is loaded last. If the utilities are loaded first, One Touch breaks it.

Download Notebook Utilites from here and install.
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/hpcpqnk/us/download/20458.html

7. Reboot.

I called HP. Here is what worked for me. Restart computer inbios mode. Press F10 key as it is booting up, Once in bios, select load set up defaults. Once you have done that, reinstall the drivers that apply to your sound card. Fic took no more than 5 minutes.
