Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

The fridge cannot cool down

The fridge is working (I can hear it), but cannot cool down sufficiently. It is warmer than usual despite being on the coldest setting. I have emptied, defrosted and started again but it hasn't worked. The freezer is working normally.

Ge tfx25jrbb-ww refridgerator not cooling

The first thing to check is if you can hear the fan running inside the freezer. This not only keeps the whole freezer cold it alspo circulates air down to the refrigerator keeping it cool as well.

I have a tall smeg fridge freezer. Freezer compartment working perfectly. Fridge not cooling despite all lights being on. I've switched it off then on, turned the thermostat down, then up again...

Hi Evelyn,
Has the freezer been defrosted lately? Perhaps a buildup of ice will not let the refrigerator cool sufficiently. Try this and let me know how it works out for you. If it does not have a self defrosting cycle on it, it may take some time, just do not use a sharp object in the freezer as this could puncture the freon lines and that would render the unit useless.

Freezer blowing air but getting warmer and stopped making ice. Fridg also seems to be warming up. no unusual noise.

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. But if the freezer also gets warmer it can be failure of the auto defrost making the vents choked. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Hear fridge/freezer running but not freezing & not cooling @ 9.

Hi,
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Refrigerator top rack is warm. Temperature shows 65 degrees

if your freezer can make ice and the ice is dry, the problem is simply air flow into the refig section. A very common cause for a service call that wasnt needed for reefers is the settings. One setting OFF 1-10 usually, operates the compressor. The remaining setting will say , for colder freezer or similar, It opens a little flapper door between the freezer and the fridge section. If you set that one to max or coldest freezer it will actually starve out the fridge section for air ,and you get a cold freezer and warmer box! It happens everytime someone has the problem , its too warm! they peg both controls to coldest! The compressor will coll the freezer sufficiently even if set to 1 and the fridge should be cool too if the setting isnt pegged to coldest setting thus closing down fridge air and making the freezer colder which isnt ever required!

The thermostat is not cooling the fridge sufficiently despite the dial being turned to maximum 7.

Is the compressor running continuously? Check the condenser and clean. If the condenser is plugged with dust you will have this problem. The thermostat only controls the compressor operation. If the compressor is hot and the freezer has no frost You need to call a service tech. If the condenser is found to be plugged with dust, shut the unit off, clean it and allow it to cool down before restarting it.
