Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

The top level is not getting clean. We think the passage to the top water jet is clogged. There are two holes in the back that the washing arm fits into, depending on what level the top rack is set at, and one of them is stuck open. We have not been happy with this dishwasher from the start and are trying to decide if we should get it fixed or just buy a new one.

I have an LG model LDS4821 dishwasher that quit washing clean. Top rack is the dirtiest. Water is hot and bottom drain is clean.

The most likely cause is a blocked or clogged wash arm. Many times when the wash stops the debris blocking the spray will back away. The holes in the arm are aimed to cause the arm to rotate. The clogged hole is usually an outer diameter hole which provides the force for the arm to rotate.

Some upper end washers have a blocked arm sense to alert when arm is blocked.

Careful not to deform the geometry of the hole when removing the debris. Tweezers work the best.

Dishes on top shelf not getting clean

Check your upper wash arm.... check the holes, especially the ones at the end of the arm. Are they possibly clogged with debris or hard water? This is the usual cause of dishes on the top rack not getting clean. The holes at the end of the wash arm are angled to eject the water at an angle to use the reaction to push the wash arm around. If those holes are clogged, then the arm won't rotate, and only those few dishes or glasses right under the arm will get clean, and the remaining 80% of the dishes on the upper rack won't get clean!

Softner is dispensed in Wash cycle

in the top of your soap draw compartment is a lever that switches the water jets over ( for instance on the main wash the jet arm is directed in the main wash compartment which will take away your main wash powder then it moves the jet are to the sofner compartment on the final rinse ) the jet arm somtimes jams and needs cleaning and the small holes above your draw compartments clog with lime build up the thing to do is take out your draw clean the inside at the top where the holes are and take the top off your machine there are two screws at the back top you will see the little ark on your soap draw it will have a return spring on it gently move it from side to side this will clear any obstuction make sure that it will spring back clean any line around the arm ( make sure you switch unplug your machine before you remove the top)

My soap doesn't dispense out of the dispenser of my Whirlpool ADP8540. Can someone assist?? I have checked the draws are in correctly and there are no obstructions. It goes through the whole cycle...

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

There are several things you need to check.
1. The Upper and lower wash arms for internal debris. NOTE how they are installed... The lower wash arm it would be wise to take a picture first before removal. Take them off one at a time. Flush and clean them making sure there are no clogged spray jets.

2. While the lower wash arm is removed inspect arond the lower wash arm support for any clogged passages. Clean as necessary.

3. Use a flashlight and look around the lower wash arm support especially from the top and sides.
You may have to remove the support to clear any obstructions. Make sure to ONLY remove the support screws and not the pump motor screws.

4. The last thing to look for are things like a damaged sump housing or pump motor impeller.

5. Pause a cycle and check the water level. If the water level is too low due to a damaged float switch actuation arm this could also cause the symptom your dishwasher is presenting. It can cause the unit to cycle on with very little internal water. Time the fill cycle... and let me know how long it takes to fill and start.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

How do I get the top sprayer arm to spin? I have cleaned and checked for clogs.

Hi

As you have already cleaned and checked the arm for any clogs then please make sure that all holes are open. Use a sharp metal pin to clean the holes on the top spray arm. Make sure the water pressure is not low. The top arm spins freely. If not then check the bearings for the arm. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Top arm is not moving

Filter and rotor jets prob clogged.

In wash, the water is heated, supposed to dissolve the soap and then sucked thru a filter and pumped up the back and out the top to spray water everywhere.

Soap doesn't always fully dissolve and clogs the filter and some slimy gets thru and clogs the rotor jets.

To fix:
1. Remove Upper and lower dish drawers

2. Take off the Upper. Middle and lotwe rotors and clean their jets out with toothpick and frequent flushing (Plug a clean hole with toothpick to make water come out elsewhere) Use the sink on full blast to see if water comes out all holes.

3. Reassemble rotors.

4. Remove and clean filter. The filter is in the bottom above the Motor/pump and held in with 8 shiny hex-head or Torx screws. Take out all screws, lift out filter and clean in sink with warm or hot water from backside. Use garden hose for hard to reach areas.

5. Reinstall filter. Don't overtighten or you will crack it

6. Replace drawers

Done!

Kenmore Elite Ultra Wash Dishwasher - top rack arm not spinning

Hi: I just posted a similar problem, but found a solution. After taking the arm, etc. apart (and verifying no blockages), I thought maybe the lack of water pressure was being caused by the fact that there are TWO holes for the top spray arm (higher and lower rack setting) on my model. ie. that water was being forced out of both holes, causing a drop in water pressure, which was causing the top spray arm to stop spinning. I plugged the unused hole with a wine bottle cork (to keep the water from spraying out the unused hole), and voila, it now works.

I wish all appliance fixes were this easy...!

Top arm not spinning

only the top rack isnt getting clean?
there is a little plastic circle in the middle of the bottom of the upper spray arm. turn it counter clock wise to pull the upper spray arm from the upper rack. make sure that isnt clogged and the spray holes are not clogged. otherwise....

the piece that the bottem spray arm plugs into and runs along the back wall of the tank to the top is called a feed tube. pull the bottom spray arm out. now you can see the part of the feed tube that feeds the upper spray arm water. does it pop out freely and easily? if so then you need a new feed tube, if not then its most likely your not achieving the right water level or your impeller connected to your circulation pump(motor) is clogged not supplying enough water pressure to travel up the feed tube to spin the upper spray arm.

Maytag jet clean model#dwc7400aaw

Check to see in you have enough water in tank. The dishwasher fills then recirculates this water under pressure. If you have water in tank, listen to see if motor is running or not. If it is, you may have clogged jet holes in the wash arms.
