Finishing sander

Without any more detail about your particular finishing sander, I do not know whether this will help, AND I am no expert, but here goes ...

I inherited a Black and Decker 1/3 sheet sander, with no manual, from my late brother. It is not their newest model -- from the yellow plastic and the general looks and wear, I would say it is from the 1980s or 90s. The sand paper is held by a sort of spring clamp at both the front and back. There is a slot -- perhaps half an inch wide and a quarter inch tall -- in both of these spring clamps. I inserted a wide-bladed screwdriver into the slot, and pryed away from the sanding pad to open the clamp and insert the new 1/3 sheet.

Hope this helps!

Sander disc no longer "sticks"

Most commercially made disc sanders have replacements pads whether they are hook and loop type or the rubber. If you go to the manufactures web sit and look up your sander, it will usually be listed somewhere. But you might have to call an authorized repair center to find the part number to order.

1/4 palm Sander is not "collecting" dust even with a new sanding bag, what could be the problem?

Are you using the punch plate to put holes in the sand paper after you put on a new sheet?
If you are it could have an obstruction in the fan guide or the fan has broken fins. Both the punch plate and fan can be purchased by clicking on the below link.

How many Types of Sanders?

Belt sanders: Belt sanders are useful for removing large quantities of wood stock quickly. They are generally used for rough sanding before fine finishing with a smaller sander. Palm sanders: Palm sanders are ultra-portable and useful for finishing small projects. Orbit sanders: Orbit sanders are usually more heavy-duty than palm sanders and appropriate for larger projects.
