Sounds like it might have booted up especially when you say after 20
minutes the fan turned on. Maybe everything booted up and is running
except your screen is black. You might have disconnected the LCD Cable
when you pried the touchpad up to blow out dust. Try the steps below.
Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely
see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.
Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be
any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga
cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your
video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot
without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN
(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct
key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will
normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.
If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works,
then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light
and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is
If when you turn the TV on you see a brighter picture then your flat panel back light is working but the TV display mechanism is not. Most of the time this is not repairable by an end user though a specialty electronics shop may be able to repair it.
If when you turn the TV on there is no noticeable brightening on the screen it could be that your TV is working but the back light has died. The back light on most TVs can be replaced but this is a fairly complex process involving taking the TV apart and swapping out the components.
There is nothing wrong with your screen, the problem is
from the flex that connects your screen to the phone's main board. This
flex must have worn out that's why your screen is not displaying any
The problem is common with flip and slide phones. The
flex gets worn out as a result of constant opening and close of the
flip or slide phone.
I would urge you to replace the flex and I
am assuring you that your screen will display picture again. You might
also be lucky to find out that the flex is not well fix, that is, it
may have loosed contact.
If you cannot change the flex yourself,
maybe you should take the phone to a local repairer within your
vicinity, so that the flex can be fixed/replaced.
Common failure of RAZR phones. It's not necessarily water damage. I have had two of them die on me that way - there's a very thin ribbon cable that connects the screen to the keypad and brain. Over time, flipping the phone open and closed damages that, and when it breaks, you lose your display. Unless you can micro-solder, you need a new phone.
Tiger, u gotta take ur phone apart, Using a torx screw driver (about 10 dollars at radio shack or walmart) and on the display side, remove the 4 screws with the torx screw driver, using some type of blade take apart the display, remove the connector with a knife or something really thin, and with some kinda brush (a tooth brush will work) brush the two sides of the connector since i m sure u ll see alot of moist in the same connector, and put it back together and that should fix ur problem.
it shows that you are having flex cable issues - common problem with the v3. you would have to bring it to a local repair shop or order a keypad flex and button flex cable to do yourself.
the parts are about $15-40 and a shop will charge about $25 to install
