heck for a release button or lever at the base.

We had the same problem.... we had to push both wand and lift way buttons together to make the wand release. I think it is a faulty button issue.

To remove the long handle with cord attached, there is a press button at the bottom near the top of the vacuum body.. Mine is covered with plastic with press written on it.. You just press the button and pull the handle off.. takes a bit of force to pull the handle out...

On the back of the machine at the base of the handle, there's a release button. Lift it up toward the handle and pull the handle up at the same time. Kind of like releasing some seat belts.

Seems like the on/off switch is at the bottom of the handle on one side, and the handle release is on the other side. Both are foot switches; that is to say that they're operated with your foot.

Hi the wand release button is located directly above the the Cylinder release button. The wand release button looks like the picture below. In order to releease the wand you must firstly make sure the Electrical cable is not wrapped up for storage. So unwrap the electrical cable. then find the item as in the picture. Press this button in and at the same time lift the wand. This will realease the wand from the spine of the Dyson.

I assume you are talking about the release on the handle pivot. Unhook the bag so it is out of the way, take the hanle off, take the top cover off, then there 2 screws holding the handle oivot asm, take them out, replace witht he new one, making sure that the the piece that hangs down meshes with the transmission. Then reasmble.
