Hey, this is Leland with Crucial Vacuum,

If the brush bar is not working properly there may be several reasons.

Firstly, the motor may be the problem. If you hear any noises while the machine is running, you should contact the original manufacturer for trouble shootingsolutions.

Secondly, your vacuum may be in need of new parts. By changing either the brushroll or belts, you should be able to increase the quality of the suction.

Dyson DC40 Upright Vacuum. The brush bar intermittently not working.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to model category.

You say 'vacuuming the floor'. Hard floors should not have the brush bar turning. The brush is for carpets only.

There are two belts on this machine. One is between the clutch unit and is very hard to remove. you can however remove the brush belt and remove all fluff, hairs and threads and then replace the belt.

Common generic problem with Dyson upright vacuum brush bar

I see lots of problems with Dyson vacuum cleaner brush bars not revolving, this is normally because the belt has broken, this is an easy and relatively cheap fix. Remove the sole plate normally held by a couple of quarter turn plastic connectors, once the sole plate has been removed the brush bar can be lifted out of it's slotted position, remove the remnants of the old belt. With the new belt manouvre it over the motor spindle first then position brush bar through belt and slot the brush back into its slots and reattach sole plate. This procedure should take no longer than ten minutes even for a total novice.

Dysentery dc17 beater bar doesn't work.

It could be something clogging or restricting the brush. It could be a broken or bad belt, the brush motor may be bad, it could be the switch that turns the brush on and off or the switch that turns the brush on when you pull the handle back.

My Oreck platinum vacuum shuts off after a couple of seconds. Whenever I turn it on it works for 2 seconds then shuts off, any help?

Atek,
You may have received the wrong beater bar for your machine. Some of the Oreck's have an electronic sensor that detects the brush speed and the way they do that is to put a magnet embedded into the brush roll. Turn your vacuum over and spin the brush by hand and look for a metal dot about 1/4" in diameter. It should towards the end opposite of the belt. If you do not see that metal dot, you need to take the brush back to where you bought it and ask for the correct brush. If you ordered online then call them up and ask for a swap. Hope this helps!

How do I change to different powers

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC24's brush bar is powered by its own motor. This means the brush bar can be turned on for carpets and rugs, and off for hard floors or delicate rugs.

To turn off the brush bar, just press the silver brush control switch located next to the red on/off switch. Press it a second time to turn the brush bar back on.

When I tilt back handel and turn dial to carpet It makes a loud grinding noise

On a Dyson this engages the brush bar. Two possible faults: Debris (hair etc) caught in brush bar - cut out with knife. Or - damaged drive belt - pieces of belt striking casing. Last, but unlikely cause, debris in bearings of brush bar - replace brush bar.

Dyson dc17 animal motor spindle keeps clogging

If you have animals get rid of the dyson and go to a vacuum that has a metal brushroll and better airflow. There is no fix on the dyson they just are not good on hair of any kind.

Beater bar brush stopped working...

Does the power head motor stop, or does the brush roll stop. If it is the brush roll stopping, replace the belt and/or the brush roll. If it is the motor, you may need to clean out around the motor, it may not be getting enough air to cool causing it to overheat and stopping. That the brush roll plate off, take out the screw, and the top will come off, then you can check to see if cleaning is the answer, if not, the motor may be bad.
