My Maytag dryer MDE9606AZW has started to squeak, sounds like a fast spinning squeak, sometimes loud and sometimes quieter. What might be causing this and how do I fix it?

It's likely your drum ring bearing has worn out. It's a strip of plastic that keeps the metal parts from rubbing has the barrel turns.

When the dryer begins its process, a long loud "squeaking" sound erupts, the dryer still dries, but this sound may last 5 - 7 minutes, then the squeak diminishes to a soft squeaking sound the remainder of...

The noise is likely coming from a roller which keeps tension on the belt which wraps around the drum. This roller will sometimes squeal as it wears on the shaft to which is mounted Follow the instructions below to replace the Idler roller.

Pull the dryer out enough to get behind it. there is a lower black panel to be removed by taking out all the 5/16" screws around the edge. Swing the panel aside and look into it. You will see the motor to the right. The roller should be between you and the motor. The configuration looks like the picture at the link below.

The belt goes in the grooves on the motor pulley and the flat side runs around the idler pulley, according to the GE chart on this image.

Gradual squeaking increase

Check the drum's roller bearings - they sometimes look like large rollerblade wheels. The may need to be replaced. They are relatively inexpensive, and can usually be found at your local appliance parts store.
Too, check for a  felt "ring" around the front of drum (if applicable). Again, if too worn, replace it.

Loud squeaking noise

dont spray that on the belt lol that stuff is flamable i think lol you most likely have bad phelt glides  they are pads that sit between the drum and the drum support and when that wears out it squicks or maybe you have a bad idler pulley which is what holds the belt maybe its rusty or something but most likelt its the pads

Hot Point electric dryer squeaking when in use.

It could be one of the pulleys on the bottom of the drum. Take the top and front panels off of the dryer. Get some WD-40. Now the hard part, there is no easy way, but put your right arm in underneath the drum (the right side of the drum)and spray the pulley the best you can. This is the hardest, but the easiest way to fix this problem, without having to take the entire dryer and drum apart. I had the similar problem. I didn't completely fix the problem, but the squeak has been significantly quieted.
