Yes you have to cross the wiring to get the 2 ohm

How to wire 2 alpine typre r 1242 to an alpine pdx1000 mono amp??

If they are single voice coil, just hook one up to the amp (bridged) like normal and run a jumper wire from the positive of the sub to the positive of the second one, then do the same for the negative....This will give you a lower ohmage, thus better bass!!!

Alpine x is not reading proper ohm resistance amps blew

the gmax amps are only 2ohm stable. it is odd that they both blew at the same time but if the impedence is too low to amps will fail.dual 4ohm dvc subs wired in parallel should read around 2ohms. allthought impedence varies with frequency and isnt truly stable.

How much is this mrv t320 amp and is it good for a 12 p3 rockfordfosgate?

If the Alpine is run bridged at a 4 ohm impedance then yes this would be fine. The amp is 400 Watts x 1 at 4 ohms. The P3 ha a 500 Watt rms rating. Just verify the impedance of your speaker. If you have a DVC 4 ohm speaker if wired in parallel you would present a 2 ohm impedance to the amp, that is bad. What is the impedance of your speaker?

Amplifier displays "CUR"

Hello anwbrown,

The "CUR" display means that the amp is drawing excessive current and the protection circuit is activating. Too low impedance or shorted speakers will cause the amp to draw excessive current.

The Alpine V12 is a Class D mono amp with only one set of speaker outputs. All versions, M301, M501, and M1001 are only stable to 2ohms. Assuming that all 6 of your connected subwoofers and speakers are 4ohm and they're all connected in parallel, the amp sees a .67 ohm load, far below it's rated impedance.

When brand new, the amp could probably operate at low to moderate volume levels without drawing excessive current. But as electronic components age, their tolerances change and they become less able to withstand excessive current or mismatched impedances.

I'd get a 4-channel amp and drive the 4" speakers off the front channels and the 6X9's off the rear channels. And just power the subs off the V12 making sure that they are connected to show a minimum load of 2ohms.

Hope this helps.

How to convert from 4 ohm to 2 ohm car amplifier

All amplifiers are rated by the manufacturer as to the minimum impedance they can be wired to and still operate effectively (or at all).
All amplifiers are different - and there are some not stable at 2 ohms.

In theory - you are changing the amplifiers LOAD - not the amplifiers ability to withstand a lower impedance.

An amplifier that is wired at a 4 ohm load will have approximately HALF the power of the same one wired at a 2 ohm load.

If you post your amplifier make/model I can tell you the spec's.
If you're wondering what voicecoil wiring configurations will give you a 2 Ohm load... I can help with that as well - Simply post your make/model of the subwoofers.

Sub cutting out

500W x 1 @ 2ohm

How did you "switch the sub from 2ohms to 4 ohms"?

If you have the swr-1222d as listed, your only options are wiring 1 or 4 ohm, as it is a dual 2 ohm voicecoil.

If it was wired @ 1 ohm - you may have already done the damage to your amplifier - as it is not rated @ 1ohm mono.

There are 3 reasons the amplifier will go into protect mode while playing...
Thermal - overheating due to too low impedence.
Ground Loop/Short Circuit - Blown voicecoil, bad amplifier ground, tinsel slap, etc.
Overload - Impedence not within specs.

Disconnect every wire (including RCAs) from the amplifier. Reconnect only power and ground - make a short wire to loop from power terminal to remote terminal.

If the amplifier stays on without turning off - remove the jumper, add the remote wire, and try again.

If it turns off - the problem is internal and needs repair.

Still on? plug in 1 rca, and re-try.... then the other.

Still going??

Now use an Ohm Meter - or Digital multimeter set to ohms 20, and check both voicecoils. They should read 2ohms +/- .5ohm.

If they are OK, wire up the 4ohm load (series the voicecoils) and turn the gain on the amplifier to 1/2.

Retry -

If the amplifier continues to fail at higher volumes - the thermal protection relay has become weakened because of your improper wiring, and will need to be repaired to solve your issue.
