There are a lot of possible reasons for this :
1. Check that you are using the same connection type, i.e whether Access Point, or Adhoc or Infrastructure.
2. Be sure that you know got the security password right, i.e WEP or WPA.
3. Another very possible reason is that you should check whether the configuration on the Wireless router is not set to enable 'MAC Address Filtering" and this means, any MAC address that it doesnt recognise on its own MAC address table, it will block it.
4.Have you checked the physical wireless switch on the Laptop? ensure that it is switched on too.
5. Then check the channel that you network card is set to, whether its on a different channel with the wireless router.

Hope this helps you with new ideas of troubleshooting it.
Goodluck!

I want to upgrade my toshiba satellite 1950-801d to wireless use

Hi there.
There is a switch on the front which you switch on and it lights up red.
Then search for wireless connection and it should find it no problem.
On certain toshiba's hold down Fn and hit F2 or F8.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!!

Need ESSID and WEP info for a Toshiba Satellite A205

The users guide for your laptop won't have information about ESSID or WEP for any wireless networks you are trying to connect to. SSID is Site Security Identification. That is the name of the wireless network you are connecting to and WEP is Wired Equivalent Privacy and is a key that is set up on the wireless network that if you don't know that key you can't use that wireless network even if you know the SSID. Each wireless network will have its own ESSID and WEP settings. If you control (I.E. you have the username and password for that router) the wireless router that you are settings up you control what the ESSID and WEP settings are. If you purchased the wireless router that you are trying to connect to, you might need a users guide for that router or if the company you get your Internet from owns your wireless router, you need to contact them concerning the setup of that wireless router.

Hope that helps.
Good Luck

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804

Sometimes Electrical devices conflict with wireless signals,i.e. Cordless phones,Mobile phones are the worst, also the area you have placed your router can affect the performance of the signal. Also try unplugging the router for 30 seconds then plug it back in. This reboots the router and sets up a new stronger signal.

Toshiba A205-S5819 Can't connect to wireless internet

The router you're trying to acess may not be set up for Vista or may not be compatible with Vista. I had to upgrade the router at my shop in order to work on Vista OS machines.
