There are a lot of possible reasons for this :
1. Check that you are using the same connection type, i.e whether Access Point, or Adhoc or Infrastructure.
2. Be sure that you know got the security password right, i.e WEP or WPA.
3. Another very possible reason is that you should check whether the configuration on the Wireless router is not set to enable 'MAC Address Filtering" and this means, any MAC address that it doesnt recognise on its own MAC address table, it will block it.
4.Have you checked the physical wireless switch on the Laptop? ensure that it is switched on too.
5. Then check the channel that you network card is set to, whether its on a different channel with the wireless router.
