Question about Nikon D40x Digital Camera

1 Answer

When my Nikon D40x is turned off memory card light still blinks, I tried a different memory card but light continues to blink. This is draining the battery fast for some reason. The manual and the Nikon website do not seem to have anything on the problem. Thanks,

Memory access lamp continually blinks even when off...camera functions normally( as far as I can tell) but lamp drains battery even when off

This may be that your memory card has a fault and the camera is trying to write to it.
Can you try another memory card?
Memory cards can develop faults.
A memory card format in the camera may help but this will wipe all your photos.

Same Problem

Could be battery contacts. Take a pencil with an eraser. Gently rub the battery contacts both inside the camera and on the battery itself. Install the battery and try it. Best of luck.

Exposure/shutter release

its the memory buffer. the booklet says that the "r" means remaining. i think the blinking is just the camera saving the pics to the memory card. i think the memory buffer is full and you have to wait for it to finish saving. if you want to be able to take more continuous pics i think you can turn down the quality and it will take more. hope this helps

Memory access lamp flashes

WHEN POUTTING INN A MEMORY CARD ON NIKON DSLR CAMERAS THE GREEN LIGHT WILL BLINK ONE TIME .
IF IT CONTINUES TO BLINK THE CARD COULD BE BAD AND TRY TO FORMAT IT .
ALSO YOU COULD HAVE A BAD COMPRESSION BOARD.

Make sure your memory card is OK. Take it out, put it back in or try another card. Be sure battery is charged. Should not see low battery sign in viewfinder or in top panel. Try a reset. There is a problem sort of related to what you describe where a firmware update may cure it. D70 Firmware Update 1.0.1 / 1.0.2 - Windows. One of the problems this firmware fixes is :"When images were captured in Continuous mode at an Image size setting of M and an Image quality setting of FINE, the memory card access lamp sometimes glowed continuously and the camera could not be turned off with the power switch. This problem has been corrected." This bit of advice comes from another Web forum, not my own discovery. Maybe this happened and ran down your battery, unbeknownst to you. Turn the camera off and power it from an electrical outlet. Update the firmware per instructions on the Nikon site. If this does not work or if your firmware is updated, call Nikon for further advice. You may need to have it serviced. This blinking light problem has been mentioned on PN and another forum. Nikon may be familiar with it already.
