I don't have a repair manual but I can fix your LCD if you got one. If you don't have LCD, I got one to replace. Let me know what you would like to do. Thanks.

SOURCE: sony cybershot dsc-w80 - not working due to error message

I just tried the same thing as a last resort (knocking my camera on the table) with my DSW-100 and it actually worked! My camera has not been working for two weeks because it keeps turning itself on and off with the same error message. I can't believe that actually worked.

SOURCE: sony Cybershot DSC-W150,screen reads turn power on and off again

You may not believe this and I hope you haven't spent a lot of money fixing your problem. I read that some people had a different error message coming up on their Sony Cybershot DSC-W150's and in order to fix it, they literally banged the lens against their knee while the lens was out and it re-focused and the error message disappeared. I tried this while my camera was doing exactly what you described above AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 2 or 3 firm blows, my LCD screen came up and focused. I can't believe it myself, but I was just desperate enough to try it and VOILA!
Good luck!!

Are you sure it is your charger and not the battery? (Batteries)

You could buy a new Sony charger, but there are lots of universal camera battery chargers, that won't cost as much and you can use it for every battery from every camera. Pick the right one and you have a charger for years to come, whatever your new camera will be and how big or small the batteries are.

  1. Ensure the camera is turned on.
  2. If applicable, ensure the lens cover has been removed before taking pictures.
  3. Ensure the LCD backlight is turned on by pressing the DISPLAY button several times until the screen appears. NOTE: Depending on the camera model, the DISPLAY button may be labeled as DISP or with a display icon [FIG. 1]. This button could be a standalone button or incorporated as one of the control arrow buttons depending on the model of camera.
  4. If operating the camera with a battery, ensure the battery is fully charged.
  5. Ensure the battery is inserted properly in the camera.
  6. If operating the camera with the power adapter, ensure it is plugged into a working AC outlet.
  7. Ensure no Audio/Video (A/V) cables are connected for viewing pictures on a TV; the LCD screen will not display when an A/V cable is connected.
  8. Perform a reset procedure on the camera.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required. The Sony Service Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

Try to reset the camera to original settings:
How to reset a Cyber-shot® digital still camera back to original factory settings. Solution
sp.gif sp.gif Cyber-shot cameras nowadays have a built-in rechargeable battery for retaining time, date, and other settings. Since the built-in rechargeable battery is not removable, current Cyber-shot camera models can only be returned to the original factory settings by pressing a small RESET button on the camera or by using an Initialize option in the menu.
Older-model Cyber-shot cameras (prior to the year 2000) do not have a built-in rechargeable battery and do not have a RESET button or Initialize option in the menu. These cameras require a manual power reset.
IMPORTANT: To determine whether or not your camera has a RESET button or Initialize option, or for other model-specific information to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
Follow the appropriate procedure below for your camera.
Using an Initialize option in the menu
Since Cyber-shot cameras have different menu system layouts, refer to the instruction manual specific for your camera model.
Using a RESET button
  1. Locate the RESET button on the camera.
  2. Use a pointed object (like a ballpoint pen) to press and hold the RESET button for 2-3 seconds.
  3. After 2-3 seconds has elapsed, release the RESET button.
Performing a manual power reset
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Remove the battery pack.
  3. Remove the button-sized lithium battery.
  4. Allow the camera to remain without power for 30 seconds.
  5. Reinsert the button-sized lithium battery.
  6. Reinsert the battery pack.
  7. Turn on the camera.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P92. I have replaced and recharged batteries but the camera will not turn on. The light blinks on and the tone sounds and then nothing.

Hi,
Take the camera card out of the camera.

This is a factory reset procedure so you will loose any pics in the internal memory!!

Turn the camera off and take the battery out (including AC power). move the power switch to the ON position and hold down the power button for 15 seconds, then move the power switch to the OFF position and release the button, put the battery back in and power on the camera.
NOTE: you will have to reset the time and date + any previous user settings.

Hope this helps!!

Good luck

Plug in your camera to a power adapter and turn it on. Leave it on for a minute then switch to battery power with fresh batteries, this should fix that.

the button is offset inside the camera, there is a little piece of plastic that seems to loose its elasticity and will not depress the actual on/off switch inside.

My camer won't turn on

Does the lense extend when you power it on in "snapshot"mode?
Could be the switch is sticking. These cameras use concave cup button that mash on gold foil on the circuit board. Could be a bad switch. $$$$$ costly.
