Question about HP Photosmart 3310 Printer

Horrible quality from scanning a negative

I have a 3310 HP all-in-one printer. I recently tried scanning a negative and it came out like ****. It was completely pixelated. I even tried scanning at higher dpi with no luck in improvement. I could essentially get better results by scanning the printed photo itself. I know something is wrong. It may even very well be my fault, but I do think I have everything set the right way. Please, give me your best advice. Thanks.
FYI - I recently got a new Mac that runs an OS X 10.5.7. I reinstalled all the software that comes with the printer, thus I am using the HP Scan app.

    I have already checked out those sites. I am doing everything correctly according to those instructions, but the quality still looks like crap. I can scan the negative, save it as a tiff, and open it in photoshop. Once said and done, the image looks horrible. It is pixelated beyond belief. It as if I scanned it in at 15 dpi. However, I have tried scanning it in at 600 dpi and it still looks like crap. I thought maybe it had to do with my computer being a Mac OS X. Or maybe because I am wireless. Yes, it sounds strange that those could cause the problem, but perhaps there is a bug that just doesn't allow it to work the same. Thoughts?

It seems as easy as pressing the "Film" button. If you still have problems, check the scan settings (onscreen HP Image Zone Help).

Lost the scan ability from my printer.


I have this problem most times that I upgrade OSX. I remove the printer in system preferences, download the latest drivers from HP and then re-install. It's working better than ever now with Snow Leopard.

Can't scan PLEASE HELP!


SOLUTION: Download the latest version (v 7.7.2) of the HP software from the HP website at www.hp.com. Uninstall the previous software and then reinstall the downloaded software. WORKAROUND: Follow the steps below:
  1. Load the slides or negatives in the TMA and place it on the scanner glass.
  2. Open Image Zone and click on Scan Picture to scan everything.
  3. After the scan is completed, change the settings from glass to scan slide/negative from TMA. The unit will scan again and show the four slides or negatives in the preview.
  4. Click on the first picture in the scan preview and make the following changes:
    • change the dust and scratch removal/sharpness to none
    • change the resolution to 72 dpi
  5. Click on the second picture in the scan preview and make the same changes described above.
  6. Click on the third picture and then the fourth picture and make the same changes.
  7. Click Accept . The correctly scanned slide or negative images will be saved in the Gallery.

HP 3310 will NOT scan


This issue occurs when the digital imaging monitor is not running or the software is not installed properly.

This issue has nothing to do with the cartridges.

If the printer in connected in wireless, once check the communication between the computer and the printer and then disable the firewall and antivirus and try to scan again from the all-in-one. Also try to scan even from the HP solution center.

If the printer is connected via USB then try to scan from the HP solution center and then check the result, if the issue persists check whether the digital imaging monitor is running or not, then try to scan from scanners and camera wizard.
