Question about Dell HQRP Replacement Laptop AC Adapter

1 Answer

My laptop goes through chargers constantly. They work for several weeks, and then I'll have to wiggle them to get them to work, then eventually they won't work at all. I just bought a replacement charger and now whenever the charger is plugged in, the mouse barely works.

This could be due to loose connection/s, frayed wires or constantly being shocked from electric discharge.
The best solution I can offer is to take it in for repairs. Something is amiss inside of your laptop.

Laptop charger not working

If the charger case has a power LED and its not litup then either the charger is shot or the cord to wall is bad. Wiggle cord all around and seeit the LED comes on. If it has no LED then check voltage with volt/ohmeter at the plug end that goes into laptop. Proper voltage should be on bottomof case label.

Try another Cord/Charger with the EXACT same power specs. Has the AC jack been damaged due to pulling on the cord while plugged in?

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

My laptop (hp x9010)is not switching on ,i pressed the reset button but still not responding whats the problem and solution

This could be down to several problems.
Firstly, check that the battery is being charged by the charger and indeed if power is getting to the laptop via the charger. The simplest way is to see if the charger LED light is green. Flashing green indicates that the power is being "spat back".. ie: not completing the circuit and this indicates that the charging circuit on the board may be damaged.

Secondly, is the charger plug tight in the port? A loose plug will not make enough contact (if it is try wiggling it and see if that helps. If it IS loose and works whan wiggling, you will need to get it replaced.

Thrirdly, try removing the battery and AC power, press the on button for 30 seconds, reconnect the Ac adaptor only and see if it then powers up

failing that, it would seem that the main fuse on the motherboard has bloen and you need it replacing

Its a common issue for DELL systems. I recommend you request a MOTHERBOARD/AC /POWER CORD replacement .They can send a technician for you or send it to a depot repair.

Compaq Presario V3000 charger stopped working and now buzzes

Unfortunately there are no perfect cables, and especially in case of a laptop, when you move it around a lot, roll the cable for travel etc. it gets bent a lot, especially in the place where the elastic cable goes into the hard plug or into the charger case. The conductors inside and the inner insulation finally break, giving at first intermittent connection (what you experienced before), and finally short-circuits the cable, resulting in charger damage.

You should be fine just replacing the charger, unless all this wiggling around didn't break the laptop power socket.

When looking for a replacement charger, note the voltage of the original (it should be exactly the same in the new one), the maximum current amperage (this should be same or - better - higher than original), and the size of plug.

Good luck :)

Should the onboard charger be plugged in 24/7?

I won't leave them on constantly. How about a timer for the onboard charger. Set it for 30 minutes a day. You get 3 1/2 hours a week and the batteries won't heat up.

Computer works by Battery only but not A/C cord

Your DC Jack Is Most Likely Failing From What You Describe....
The DC Jack Is The Port Where Your Charger Cord Plugs Into..
If Wiggled Enough, It Will Pry Loose From The Motherboard And Eventually It Will Begin To Short Out The Power, If Left Unrepaired, It Will Eventually Lose All Means Of Charging/Powering On Due To The Solder Being Burnt Away From The Positive Pins That Connect To The Mainboard....

You Might Want To Test Your AC Adapter With A Multimeter For Positive Power and Correct Voltage .. Sometimes A Broken Cord Will test Good If The Break Is Making Contact when testing....
So When Testing the cord... Slightly wiggle it to see if indeed there is a break in it or not...

Dell laptop charger

If the charger is older and since you saw the light go on then off again, it could just be the charger wires. Assuming your charger has a black box attached to it, try pushing the cord in towards the black box (usually the end leading to your laptop) . If that doesn't work, wiggle the cord in that area. If this works, your problem is simply the wire is worn out. You can fix it by exposing the inside wire where the bad connection is, snip it, reconnect and cover with electrical tape. I just did this to my sister's last week.
