The disk tray often gets stuck with the older models of the Xbox 360. After opening the tray, lightly spray some WD-40 onto the areas where the tray moves along.
As for not reading games, it's important that you find whether the issue is the game or the Xbox. Try playing the game on another Xbox console. If it works, your DVD drive is most likely faulty.
Inspect and clean your disc Take a close look at the bottom side of your game, movie, or music disc (the side without a label or image). Are there scratches? Excessive scratches or smudges can prevent your console from reading the disc.Clean your disc Hold the disc by the edges without touching the top or bottom surfaces.Using a soft, clean, slightly damp cloth, lightly wipe from the center of the disc outward.
Note Use ONLY water to clean the disc.
Once the disc is clean, load the disc into your console and see if the disc plays.
hi, you know when you press the open button and it jams you know as soon as you press the button you hear it make a noise then jam well as soon as it jams if you press the tray in quickly then let go as if your pushing it in like a button it should then open on its own. so you press the eject button and it should come out a tiny bit before it jams well as soon as it jams push it in and let go and usually it will open.
another known trick with benq drives is when you switch the xbox on wait for it to come on fully then press the eject button on the xbox now when it jams dont try pressing it again wait for the xbox dvd drive to stop making a noise and when it resting again if you press the eject button again it should come open
right now as for replacing the dvd drive if you swap out the benq and put in any other such as hitachi you will need to hack the drive to work doing this bans you from xbox live and certain updates will stop your xbox working ever again so it is a bit of a risk, as long as you dont install any updates you will be ok but you will need to hack the software on the new drive and thats not easy as you need to have it connected to the xbox for power and connect the sata connection into your pc so you can then put the new software on.
the other option you have is buying another benq drive the same as yours for the well known auction site, now even this is not just a case of putting the new dvd drive in what you have to do is undo the 4 screws on the bottom of your dvd drive and take off the top and bottom case, then if you look at the bottom of the dvd drive you will see a circuit board well you need to take this off your dvd drive and fit it onto the new benq drive without doing this the new drive would not work as your dvd drive is married with software to your xbox so it will only work in your xbox so swapping this control board over gets around this and will get it working again.
the problem with it not opening is to do with a white rubber drive belt slipping this causes the mechanism inside not to drop down properly causing it to jam so if you are having real problems getting it open even with the ways i have told you then take the dvd drive out undo the 4 screws on the bottom of the dvd drive then pull the top and bottom half off and give the belts a good clean and get all the dust out as this causes them to slip.
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
If the console has never been opened to change the dvd drive then eather your laser lens or one of the 2 motors in the drive needs to be changed. 90% of the time its the laser lens. You cant just use any laser for the xbox 360. There are 3 different drives. Toshiba, BenQ, Samsung, so you have to see what drive model you have before you try to order one yourself. I repair these often with 99% success.
Yes first check the hub motor if it's stiff you will
need a new drive . This is kinda rare . 80% of
the time it's the laser . Go to Rich PSX buy
a laser for a benq drive ,thay cost 20.00 or so
when you get the laser remove the anti static solder
dot with a soldering iron and find a tutorial on how
to install , It's not that hard.
tap the top above the drive while its loading, or take it apart if its a benq take the drive apart on the back side of the drive while still being inside of the enclosure there are two screw like objects the one on the left turn it to the left until it stops that should fix it
Your xbox will not read a game and says open tray with some grinding noise? I got your fix right here! I had this same problem and with a few hours of googling and watching a few videos on youtube i was able to fix my console. the open tray error started happening all the sudden and gradually got worse over the course of a week. I read a comment on one of the videos and decided to try it. it is a simple laser adjustment and anyone who can use a screwdriver can do it. it works for me and many others that tried this with success. do this only if your console is out of warranty!
all you need is a set of jewelers screwdrivers. Phillips screwdriver, knife for slicing through the warranty tape and a 10 torqs bit for removing screws once the xbox is open.
1. open the xbox (search youtube for videos showing how to open it up)
2. lift out the DVD drive and flip over
3. remove the 4 screws holding the top and bottom plate on
4. make sure the dvd drive is right side up and look directly behind the lens. you will see 2 gold/yellow screws. these screws dont look like screws so be aware of this. there is a slot cut in these screws for turning them using a flat head screwdriver. once you have located these move to step 5.
5. once you have located the 2 screws that are side by side, turn the LEFT screw from the 12 o'clock position to the 11 o'clock. you only need to adjust the left screw slightly counter clockwise to the 11 o'clock position. this aligns the laser. if you do it too much you might mess things up.
6. set the drive back in the console and replace only the top cover with the black circle on the dvd drive. you need to put this back on to test it and so the disc doesn't fly off. hook up the console to the tv and power it up. insert a game. viola! the game will now work and no more open tray errors. if there is still an error try adjusting that screw to the 10 o'clock position and try again.
7. use electronics canned air to clean out the console before reassembly.
How I worked around the "Open Tray"
problem, where the game discs were not being recognized:
1. Open tray
2. Unplug power cable while tray is open
3. Plug in power cable
4. Power on console - tray closes
5. Open tray
6. Insert disc
7. Try your game
else mentioned this in a forum somewhere, however I don't recall who it
was or which forum. I'm just trying to get the word out so people don't send in their XBOX for repair, or open the case and void the
warranty if this workaround resolves the problem.
