I have an older model Amana stainless designer series washer that keeps leaking grease onto my clothes! Why is it doing this and is it cost effective to fix it?
Re: My washer keeps leaking grease onto my clothes!
The problem that you have is the bearings have badly worn,a lot of companys will just replace the entire drum rather than mess about with the bearings as this does not always solve the problem.sorry to give this bad news.

The problem may be the seal on the transmission failing. If this happens, grease from the transmission (necessary for it to function) will leak and float (recall from science class that oil is less dense that water) up into the washer. As the grease enters the tub, it stains your clothes. Washer Transmission Replacement Whirlpool Kenmore Top Load Washing Machine...
www.fixya.com/.../t14582529-maytag_washing_machine_gets_grease Oct 8, 2012 - Maytag washing machine gets grease on clothes occasionally. ... some of their clothes ruined by grease stains from their front loader Kenmore. .... remove the agitator from a Maytag washing machine Model A407 series 02?
Searched for the model on the web and didn't find it. I am assuming that it is an older top load model. Front loaders I don't know about.
Is the grease appearing just in the drum or is there some on the floor underneath. Either way I would say you need to replace the transmission. If you have an old 12-15 yrs washer I would get a new one. The replacement trannys only last a couple of years at best and aren't worth the money to replace $200-300 if your machine is ready to **** out. The only places on a washer that have grease are the clothes you're washing and the transmission. The tranny will mostly leak onto the floor but can sometimes get into the drum.
grease may be trapped between inner drum and if taking apart steam/pressure clean between the drum and internal use full container of borax use very hot water and run an empty full load wash
If you can't loosen the nut, you can break it with a hammer and a metal chisel. Tub nut is cheap. Grease on clothes = new transmission time.
By the way, after you remove the inner tub,.... you have to take the entire outer tub assembly out of the washer, flip it upside down, remove the yoke that holds the motor onto the outer tub, and pull the transmission out through the bottom of the outer tub.
What actually will happen over time is the stainless steel retianing hub and nut diseningrate and the tub becomes loose. Then the spin cycle will destroy the top balancing ring. When this happens - the washer is junk - not worth repairing.
Before that thou - other mechanical problems can happen, like u-joint breakage. These washers are absolute junk.
Cylon, sounds like you need to replace the water inlet valve. It's not seating and weeping water. For series 10 the part number would be 40097701. Not that hard of a job. Catriver..post back.
