Hi disconnect everything, inputs speakers and leave power. If still in protect mode then there is a circuit problem, will have to send it in.

Best of luck

If your NAD amplifier is in protect mode with no speakers connected, it will be necessary to open it up and check for internal component failure.

I have a AVD-C700es and there is power going to the receiver but it won't turn on. Any suggestions? It seems to be stuck in standby mode!!!!!

Could be blown, most receivers now a days have overload protection that protects them, try disconnecting or checking your speaker wiring and turning it on again. Also try leaving it unplugged for a few minutes and trying again after. If all else fails, it is probably a internal fuse blown to protect the receiver, a repair shop will probably charge 100 to repair it.

I have an Yamaha RXV440. It goes into protection mode instantly.

The Yamaha repair shop evidently couldn't find the failed component(s) and/or cold solder joints causing it to go into protection mode. Sony equipment has similar problems related to protection mode.

Hi, ive jus added a pioneer avh5900 in to my car.. the problem i get is when my volume reaches between 17-21 which does seem to blast my speakers, my sounds jus cuts out on the system, altho the system...

Hi does the amp go into protection mode? or does the sound dip and amp stays on? if it goes into protection mode there's a good chance your running the amp wrong. If it dips and stays on its a power problem that can be fixed by adding a farad capacitor.. thank you for using Fixya.com

Stuck in protect mode

Protet mode is a special diagnostic mode that starts when a fault is detected.

When in protection mode the unit is prevented from starting by protection circuit, so to prevent further damage.

Check the speakers and speakers wiring, a contact in speaker wires, or faulty speakers can send the unit in protection.

Try unplugging power cable for one hour or so. then connect cable back and see if you get rid of protect state. Sometimes accumulation of electrostatic charges inside circuit capacitors can kick in protect mode. In that case unplugging the unit from main for some times can get rid of electrostatic charges, and reset circuits by draining power completely.
If that was the problem, you will not get Protect when plugging back power cable.

If you do all the above and still get Protect, then there is a real fault.

In that case the unit may be disassembled and tested to find the fault.

If that is the case I suggest contacting the manufacturer at the number listed on the owners manual, or asking a quote on repair to a local technician.

Since the problem seems to be sensitive to the volume level, I would be looking at the output wave form for any DC current. Although the protection circuit should detect any DC present, it is possible that some is leaking through. Also, verify that the speaker impedence is correct. If the amp is seeing too low an impedence load, it will work too hard causing excessive heat which will shutdown the unit as well.

Keep me posted.

Protect Mode

There are bad connections on the main board that are effected by heat. I would suspect that when the volume level is higher, the system shuts down sooner. This should be a simple repair that will not require parts. If you can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself. If not, the cost will be the local labor rate.
