A sound card (also known as an audio card) is a computer expansion card that facilitates the input and output of audio signals to and from a computer under control of computer programs. Typical uses of sound cards include providing the audio component for multimedia applications such as music composition, editing video or audio, presentation, education, and entertainment (games). Many computers have sound capabilities built in, while others require additional expansion cards to provide for audio capability.

Video results for what is the sound card and where is it
the right speaker is the location of where all the connections are connected. Generally, the other speaker will have only one cord that physically attaches to it and the opposite end connecting to the right speaker. Also, the right speaker connects to the computer sound card and also is the speaker which will generate the power as it has the power cord also connected to it. Finally, the above example also illustrates how the power button may be also located next to the connections.

In a desktop PC the soundcard could be either 'integrated' or standalone in a PCI slot. Look at the back of your PC and see if there is a headphone and mic jack in the vertical column of components. You'll see the vertical column of components I am talking about. If it is there, then you have an integrated sound card that is built into the motherboard. You cannot replace this, per se, but you can install a new one in a PCI slot and use that new one, instead.
If you look at the back of your computer and see the headphone/mic jack in one of the horizontal rows, then you have a sound card that is installed in a PCI slot. There is generally no difference in function between an integrated and PCI sound card.
If you have a laptop then your sound card is integrated into the logicboard (motherboard). You cannot change this one out, or install a PCI sound card, but there does exist a line of aftermarket sound cards to plug into the express/34 slot which are usually used for higher-end audiophiles with some hobby that needs it.
What does the sound card do? It makes sound :P It is what sends audio from computer to speakers. Without a sound card, you would not hear youtube videos or music. There is a tiny built-in speaker that will make an annoying 1980's style *beep* when the computer is angry, but that is not connected to the sound card and can not make any sound other than a *beep*.

The sound card is more often than not integrated into your motherboard, check your device manager and you will probably have a realtek sound card. If so it is integrated, the only ones that arent are the Turtle Beach and Creative Labs Soundblaster models which are PCI expansion cards plugged into the motherboard. Ive never heard of manufactured computers using a soundcard that isnt integrated unless you paid for that upgrade.

How to install a sound card

1. Locate na expansion slot in your computer that will accept your sound card.
2.Gently place the sound card on top of the slot. Line up the pins on the sound card with the slot and push the card down so that it sits in the slot. Be sure that the card is securely in the slot and pushed all the way in.
3.If your computer has an audio cable that connects the CD-ROM drive directly to the sound card, locate it and plug it in to the card. Consult the documentation that came with your sound card to determine the location of the CD-ROM audio connector on the card. This cable is rarely necessary with current audio hardware.MORE INFO.IN NEXT SLOT
