first OF ALL CLARIFY YOUR PROBLEM LIKE YOU HAVE TRIED ON 3 COMPUTERS IT IS MONITOR OR CPU . IF YOU HAVE TRIED WITH THREE MONITORS AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING THEN PROBLEM IS WITH YOUR CPU DEFINITELY , THE PROBLEM ARE MANY IN CPU 1. CHECK WITH YOUR POWER SETTING TO DO THIS :- go to my computer, right click on my desktop , so to screen saver and then go to power option in that change all to never. 2. PROBLEM MAY BE WITH YOUR CPU FAN , WHEN THE FAN IS UNABLE TO COOL THE PROCESSOR THEN THE SYSTEM WILL RESTART AGAIN AND AGAIN. FIX THE FAN PROPERLY UPON PROCESSOR.THE SAME PROBLEM I HAVE FACED WHILE ASSEMBLING NEW CPU 3.

I have a Samsung syncmaster 2233ws monitor every time I turn my monitor on it stays on for about 2 to 3 seconds and then it goes black I checked all of the capasitors on the mother board and they all...

I would still lean toward the computer being the issue. A lot of newer monitors will pop up something like "no signal" for 2-3 seconds and then enter power saving mode by default. If your getting at least this for a few seconds I would say the computer isn't working. Please note a computer can still have fans and lights going and still be bad. If you have lights and/or fans going I would start by replacing the power supply on the computer.
The easiest thing to do to narrow a problem down is rule out as much as you can. For the monitor if you have another computer, laptop or a friends laptop hook up the monitor to it and test. Monitor works then you have narrowed your issue to your computer. If the monitor still isn't working (you need to toggle the display generally on laptops [fn + F7] usually) then you know its the monitor.
By the way Samsung generally has a 5 year warranty on monitors.
If you have ruled out the monitor and power supply I would then try the following
  • If you have a dedicated graphics card, remove it and plug monitor into on-board video. If it works you know its the graphics card if it doesn't then it's most likely your motherboard.
  • Also can try completely unplugging the computer (pull power cord for 30 seconds) computers don't really turn all they way off usually they sit in S5 power mode)
  • Can also try pulling (if you have more than 1 stick of ram) pull all but one out and try powering on, repeat for each stick until it works. I have seen bad memory prevent computers from booting

Emachine ET1161-05 desktop...monitor keeps going to sleep...comes back on only if i move the mouse...very annoying, i don't want my monitor to ever go into sleep mode...pls help

This may be something that Windows (or the computer is telling Windows) to do. Everyone wants to reduce the power consumption in the computer, so be default your monitor may be going into 'sleep' mode and turning off.
1) To change this, RIGHT click on the Windows desktop. 2) When the menu appears, select PROPERTIES, then select the SCREEN SAVER tab. 3) There are 2 things to check here. First at the top, make sure that your screen saver is selecting something beside BLANK. This will cause the monitor to blank out and appear to have turned off. 4) The second thing to check is the POWER settings. Click the POWER button at the bottom on the screen. 5) Now, you will see 2 rows of power options, one for when the computer is plugged in (which is all the time with your desktop) and the other is when on batteries. We're concerned with the PLUGGED IN settings. 6) Make sure the TURN OFF MONITOR setting is set for NEVER. This will ensure that your monitor never turns off on you. 7) Now click OK and OK and now your monitor shouldn't turn off on you.
Hope this response helps you out.
Best of luck!

My monitor shuts down after one second.

Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean that your Dell computermag-glass_10x10.gif has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display settings.
  1. Step 1 Press any key on your keyboard or move your mouse. Either will turn off power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your Dell computer tower or laptop.
  2. Step 2 Press any key a second time if the monitor goes from power-save to stand-by mode. Stand-by mode allows the screensaver to appear.
  3. Step 3 Enter your user name and password into the login prompt if your computer requires a login. Press "Enter" to begin using your Dell computer.
  4. Step 4 Change the display settings on your Dell monitor to prevent your monitor from going into power-save mode prematurely. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and choose "Properties." Click the "Screensaver" tab and press "Power." Beside "Turn off Monitor," choose a time amount from the drop-down list and press "Apply."

These are just suggestions, not sure if it will fix your problem (not listed in any order but only do one at a time)

1. Change BIOS battery (reset BIOS)
2. Clean out machine (dust, reseat cables, cords etc...)
3. Try removing the power cord from the monitor, hold the power on button for ten seconds then put the power cord back on
4. Try reseating the video card.

Hope this helps.

Computer in safe mode and monitor will go to sleep mode....help what can I do...my husband tried everything....

First, Shotdown your computer from start ,
then remove your computer power, remove VGA cable, remove VGA power cable. then
1- connect vga cable to computer.
2- connect VGA power but do not power on.
3- connect computer power on but do not turn on
4- turn on computer first and 3 second turn on your lcd.

if NOT try powering on computer then Monitor then power the computer then monitor.
IF NONE worked, YOU may have LCD that need drivers from manufacturing, some newer models required that, Specially for vista. You may use older Monitor to get drivers to computer and extracted, then you may connected, you will have solved the problem.
Goodluck

Monitor rejects computer

I'm just guessing, but it could be that the resolution you are using on your MS-DOS monitor is not compliant with the new monitor you are trying to use. Check the supported resolutions of the monitor that you would like to use, and then make sure you set that resolution before switching monitors.

Turns off and on by itself

Ok so its connected to your pc?
check settings on the monitor itself [if you'restill able to do that]
disconnect all your usb devices restart your computer and try again.

Is it in a cold room ? that might be the problem.

Is it in the same powerbar as your computer ?
I'm not sure but if your power outlet where you connect it is simply looped to the rest that are in use [lazy electrician] then it might turn off because a power shortage.

Good luck
