I am having the same problem.  I have managed a workaround using the Gutenprint driver for the Epson Stylus DX4800.  It works but prints out slightly lighter than full colour - sort of a cross between normal and draft mode.

I had real problems loading this printer on my imac (tiger), in the end (even after the genius bar failed to solve it) I spoke to Epson & they talked me through intstalling the drivers. They went through the normal printer selection on the mac & when it asks to select printer I had to launch the driver. It now works perfectly but I'm reluctant to upgrade to Leopard in case I cannot repeat the operation

Reinstall everything: leopard, driver?
