Question about Cub Cadet Street Sign- tractor lawn riding mower parts

1 Answer

Bought my Cub Cadet 18M from Home Depot in September, 2008. Only used a couple of months. Trying to start the thing now and it is impossible. Will start for a few seconds and then shuts down. I live in Florida. I bought this mower because it was supposed to be easy to start for myself and my daughter, two females.

The mower was purchased in the Summer of 2007 and exhibited the same problem as yours (started briefly and then died) in late 2008 and was then abandoned in the weather until it was given to me.

The heat shield tends to vibrate in resonance with the engine vibration; this vibration eroded the gasket between the heat shield and the carburetor mounting flange to allow ambient air to enter into the gas/air flow into the intake side of the engine. This extra air “leaned-out” the gas/air mixture causing the engine to die.

The machine now starts on the first pull and runs well.

I have a Cub Cadet LTX1040 that does not charge the battery while running and I don't believe it ever did. I bought it brand new from Home Depot in November in 2013.

you are out of luck as this machine is four years old. you should have taken it back when you first realized it was not charging. You have to get it checked out. I did have an old machine that never charged itself so I purchased a little battery charger you plug into the hydro and kept it charged up that way. It worked for me.

22hp cub cadet cannot get started. severe backfire out exhaust when attempting to start. Ran fine when last yoused about two month ago ?

Hello. Thanks for using fixya. First thing i would do is make sure it has gas in the fuel tank. If that's ok. I would replace the spark plugs next. Could be that they are fouled out causing the no start problem.

Cub Cadet Selp Propell and Electric Start Stopped Working

Take a look at your owners manual. It should have a parts diagram in it. With the manual in hand take a good look at the self propel assembly. Make sure every thing is there. It could be a spring came off, or belt broke. You might have to take off some covers to check. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined it shouldn't be a problem. I suggest taking a photo with a digital camera to make sure you get everything back the way it should be. Also in your manual it might have a troubleshooting page.

Good luck. Let me know if this helps.

Finding the oil plug on Cub Cadet LT 1050 with Cohler engine

It is probably on the right side in the middle of the engine. It should have a yellow cap on the end of the drain. Take the cape off and slide about a 12" piece of 5/8" x 1/2" clear vinyl tubing (available at Home Depot, Lowe's, etc.) on the end, turn the plastic body to the left (about 1/4") and pull out about a 1/4". Oil will flow. Reverse to shut off.
