What I expected was a quote to get it fixed and an address to send the camera. Appreciate if you can do both of these for me; I expect to pay around $200 for the repair. I guess the other alternative is to purchase a second hand R5 Caplio. Perhaps you can help find one. Tony

Oh and by the way, I thought you were located in Australia if I had known that you were located in USA I would not have paid the fee. Tony

Hi Tony

Fixya is a global website, and has service experts from all over the world. For example I am inn UK.

Regarding the camera, the repair will probably be above $150 (AUD), since the technician will need to take apart and reassemble the lens, and some part may need replacement.

If you want to replace your Ricoh, bear in mind that the R5 model is not on the market anymore.

The nearest model on the market is the newer Ricoh Caplio R7 that has an higher definition from about $280.

A better choice will be buying a Ricoh Caplio R8, that has 10Mpixel and more advanced features.

You can grab an R8 here for only $215, RRP is about $400!!
Much better than repairing the R5 for about the same amount.

You should be able to place the lens element into the body of the lens and screw it into place. Most have a "cap" that have small, percision screws that you can simply screw back into the lens. The exterior cover should screw in as well. Beyond doing this, if the repair is more serious, you should take it to a qualified technician to ensure that all of the elements are aligned correctly and in good working order. I know this isn't what you want to hear, but lenses are high percision items, and if it goes much beyond placing the first element in and screwing the cap over it, I'd take it to a tech. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Lens error 16 means the lens has popped out of its tracks internally. This happens if the lens is out when the camera is dropped. Most require a new lens. If the lens is crooked, it is possible to straighten it sometimes. See the picture.d40ff78.jpg
Attempting to straighten the lens can break it but rarely makes things worse.
If the lens is jammed in, not much can be done without a technician.

Camera has been dropped and landed on lens - lens now wobbly and auto focus not working all the time - due to lens wobble? easily fixable or does it need it be seen? Could be a lens fixing clip fallen off...

Definitely will need to go in for service, I used to fix Panasonic Digital camera's for 4 years. Unit will probably need a replacement lens unit. Not a cheap fix, but get an estimate, or use your household insurance.

Lens problems

there is a problem wit your lens section, get it repaired with your company professionals. Your camera may be fallen or being pressed from front side by someone. The new ZOOM will give the same best result and no further problems.

LENS ERROR 2 on my Casio Ex-V7

I read on the Casio website that this is due to an impact, meaning, the camera must have fallen or hit something really hard and strong.

Lens error 2 indicates that there is something wrong in the lens assembly. One possible damage concerns the image stabilization mechanism.

I also own a Casio EX-V7. My sister dropped it so hard that a dent has appeared on one of the front corners. Everytime I switch on the camera on record mode, LENS ERROR 2 appears for a few seconds.

Despite this, I can happily use the camera as usual. However, it's just annoying to see the Error.

I'm planning to bring it to a service center within a month from now.

Camera jam

All the R series Ricohs have a pretty complicated lens system employing 2 swing-out lenses which can get stuck pretty easily, or worse, broken. If you are very good at taking things to bits you might have a go at fixing it (I've done several that were not TOO bad) since picking up one on Ebay with a good lens unit is almost impossible.

Blurry display after dropping

I did the same thing to my Photosmart E327 and upon inspection, I found that the len had fallen out. I could not find it so I am trying to find how to get it replaced. The blurry picture began for me after the drop. Suggest that you check to see if your len has become dislodged, or fallen out as mine did.
