Question about Samsung HLN617W 61" Rear Projection HDTV

Replacing a lite engine assembly

I have a Samsung HLN617w1x. Technician says the lite assembly is bad and needs to be replaced at a cost in excess of $1000. Set is out of warranty and this is the second time in two years this problem has occurred. How difficult is it to replace lite engine? Is anyone aware of companies that purchase these sets and remanufacture them? Is there any market for this old set? Should I just trash it and buy a new set with extended warranty?

Get on the phone to Samsung at1-800-522-7341.
You have one of the dreaded N series that is full of problems.
Even if you are out of warranty, they have been known to work with you.

Its a common problem. The lamp needs to be replaced.

Call 1-800-samsung & choose the parts dept.
For the replacement lamp it cost $149.99 plus tax & shipping .
You give them the lamp code ( red sticker on the side of the tv) , they send it out 5day shipment.
Local tv repair services can install it for an installation fee. This will save money apposed to ordering through a tv repair shop who charges an order part fee plus etc...

Replaced bulb but tv comes only comes on for about 10 to 15 seconds then shuts down and red light flashes

It sounds like you have a bad ballast board, or possibly the power supply going to the ballast bulb. I'm afraid that if you do not have the repair experience on solid state TV sets, you will need to contact and authorized Mitsubishi repair center. Good Luck

Possibly a bad light tunnel assembly if the part is only a shadow effect. If not then probably a bad DMD board. The DMD board is part of the light engine but needs to be replaced by a technician.

This is a problem we are seeing quite a few. The problem is, you have a defective Lite-Tunnel. This can be repaired two ways. (1) The Cheap way. Replacing the Lite-Tunnel. This is somewhat complicated. You must take the engine apart to change the tunnel. After changing the Lite-tunnel it must be aligned. (2) The expensive way. Changing the complete Lite engine. This is less complicated, but cost a lot more. Lite engine Part Number BP96-00822J . Average cost $1300

Best regards
