Question about Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console
The power switch is jammed
Ok so i just had the same problem with my slim ps2. So i decided to open it and try to fix it. So i found out theres a little chip with the power button on it that looks like a "L". I relized that the little white button on the chip was broken off and wasn't attached to the chip. So not really using my head stupid me decided to remove it and glued it back. So thinking it was good and firmly on there i relized it also somehow glued the button stuck also. So when i tried agian to fix it i got mad smashed it ordered a new one online installed it and works like a charm. If your not expierenced with electronics its really easy to replace. Im sure you can do it yourself. If not heres a crash course. Take the PS2 slim flip it upside down, remove rubber tabs to reveal screws, unscrew all screws then try to seperate top cover of unit from the bottom. Its a little tricky so be careful and gentle. If you find yourself struggling take a really small flat screwdriver and try to wedge it carefully in the lines of the seperation. Once off flip right side up and on your left is the power switch. Gentley pull up and pull connection from back apart to leave the connection attached to the motherboard. Replace chip and bingo do steps in reverse and your good to go. Hope this help because i fixed mine really quickly once i had the part. Good luck.

Sometimes someone will have somethhing sticky on their fingers when they press the power reset button and cause it to glue in place. What you have to do is Remove the screw covers, and 6 screws from the bottom of the slim. These covers are square and one is under the warranty sticker. Tow of the rubber pad feet will remove to expose the screws. Use a knife to pry up the covers. Two of the rubber feet do not remove, they are the ones closest to the front. Open the case, and check to see if you can clean up the power switch button. It is attach to the top half. no problem getting the plastic top half wet when you clean it.
