well does the FERG run on other known working PC?
test the FERG first.
or try a known good PC monitor to the 745,
these simple tests prove what end is bad.
easy no? just do it.

does those words show on the screen
or are thinking this, I see no signals.
my guess is the FERG texted to the screen live no SIGNAL
that means the PC is dead, in all cases.
(or cable bad sure)

ill stop here, as that is 1 step. if i show 5 steps folks get scared.

The display driver could have crashed, try holding the power button until the lights go off, and the hard drive powers down (you can hear the spinning stop) then try to power it back on. If that doesn't work, do a hard reset, which would be unplugging it from any AC power, and removing the battery and then reconnecting the battery before powering it on. Should this not work, i would say it's safe to assume the backlight is non functioning and a replacement would have to be ordered.

U talking about movie playing from a DVD disc?Go into the movies Menu make sure the word Subtitle is alway indication is on.

The DV series HPs are notorious for bad motherboards/components.Very poor design and cheap components.

Setting the language
You can set a desired subtitle, audio and menu
language. If the selected language is recorded on
the Disc, subtitles, audio and menu are displayed
in that language.
1 Touch “Language” and then touch
“Subtitle Language”, “Audio Language”
or “Menu Language”.
Each language menu is displayed and the currently
set language is selected.
2 Touch the desired language.
When you select “Others”, a language code
input display is shown. Input the four digit
code of the desired language then touch
“Enter”.

Setting assist subtitles on or off
Assist subtitles offer explanations for the aurally
impaired. However, they are only displayed if they
are recorded on the DVD.
You can turn assist subtitles on or off as desired.
1 Touch “Assist Subtitle”.
Touching “Assist Subtitle” switches
between “On” and “Off”.

Try to use VLC player. open movie file with vlc player , after wards just drag and drop subtitle file to movie screen.

The only remote that will definitely turn the sat subtitles on/off is the sat remote. The other subtitle buttons on the other remotes refer to the DVD subtitles and the subtitles generated by the tuner in the tv. The subtitle option is greyed out on the tv because you are not on the tv tuner.
