Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

3 Answers

My eMachine w3107 will not boot up, and promts for the system disc. I do not have a system disc. I purchased a program that fixes boot problems, but when it gets to the screen for me to select a hard drive to boot, no hard drives appear on the list. It seems that the computer cannot locate the hard drives at all. Any ideas on what I can do to get my computer started?

Well, if nothing inside has changed, your hard drive wouldn't have just come unplugged. Insert a system disk would indicate some kind of bootable medium not just a CD disc. Therefore your this leaves you with one of two problems. A power supply that just has a bad 12v wire (the one on your hard drive) or your hard drive failed. If you noticed no severely decreased performance before, I doubt that the hard drive just died. Take the door panel off and remove the 12v power wire to the Hard Drive, if you don't know what I am talking about google the images. Replace it with one of the other wires, if that solves the problem you can run it that way or invest in a new power supply (geeks.com $18 for a 400w) or if that doesn't you'll need a new hard drive (fiarly cheap on geeks.com and tigerdirect.com) but you'll be loosing all your data. If that doesn't work try to get a friend that can put that hard drive in thier computer and recover the data.
You would have to learn how to slave the drive but thats all down the road one thing at a time.

Restore my emachines w3507 back to factory settings how do i do it

Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer
If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen. Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only Windows Advanced Options Menu
Please select an option: Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt Enable Boot Logging
Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
Debugging Mode Start Windows Normally
Reboot
Return to OS Choices Menu Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice. To perform a system restore, follow these steps: 1.Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK. 2.On the General tab, click Launch System Restore. 3.Select Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next. 4.Calendar dates in bold are possible restore points. Click the most recent one to view system restore information. 5.Select a system checkpoint or an installation restore point, and then click Next. 6.Close all other programs. 7.To start the system restore, click Next. 8.Your computer restarts. Repeat steps 1 through 8 until you fix your configuration issue.

It is possible for the Windows operating system on your eMachines computer to have a critical failure. If the operating system on your eMachines computer is failing, you can use your recovery discs to restore your computer. Recovery discs come with your purchase of an eMachine, and contain your operating system and all your basic drivers. You can recover your eMachines W series in about an hour.

Turn off your computer and press "F8" to enter the BIOS menu. Tab over to the "Boot Sequence" or "Boot Order" menu. Move your optical drive to the top of the list. Press "F11" to exit and save changes. Insert your recovery disc into your optical drive, then restart your computer. Press any key to boot from disc. Select the "Full Recovery" option from your recovery disc menu. Allow the recovery procedure to complete. Hope this helps.

I was having many problems with my W3107 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Emachine. I thought a system recovery would help it, alot. Well after I did the system recovery 3 times the same thing kept coming...

Is it new-enough to still be under WARRANTY?

Your problems could either be:

* bad RAM -- on another computer, download the free 'MEMTEST86+' software, and burn it to a CD-recordable disk. Reboot your computer, and tell it to boot from the CD, to do an exhaustive test.

* bad motherboard -- bulging or leaking capacitors cause "random" voltage-fluctuations, and other "random" problems. Your only option is to replace a "bad" motherboard, or to buy a new computer.

* bad disk-drive -- not storing data 100% correctly.

Diagnosing these problems is best left to a qualified technician -- take your computer to one.

P.S. Telephone eMachines -- they can courier-ship you a replacement set of "System Recovery" CD-ROM disks.

My emachine does not load any dvd rom disc's it will read a cd rom disc but will not recognize the dvd's.model # w3107 2006 year

more then likely the DVD laser part of the drive has burned out, i have nearly the same model and had to replace mine a couple years ago!! This is a classic situation, the CDROM laser is still functional, but DVD is inop!!! New DVD-RW Drives about $20 on www.NewEgg.com and even cheaper on www.eBay.com for a decent DVD-ROM model!!! Easy fix too, just make sure you get the IDE style, or make even faster with SATA, if you have a SATA available on your system!!

Emachine reboot problem

First of all remove ant cd from drive when booting up uinless you are using a bootable windows disk. if the problem still persist when then computer starts booting up keep pressing f8 until you get the choice to go in to safe mode. Once in safe mode choose the option when prompted go to system restore points and restore the computer to a date availabe wich is before the date of the problems.

Accessing EMachines W3107 Recovery Partion

You can fix this virus without recovering.

Log in normally. Go to run, type in msconfig and go to the startup tab. Uncheck everything and reboot your pc. Once there try your internet. If it's not working go to Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings, and uncheck anything in your proxy settings. Close IE and reopen. You should be able to connect. Then download and run Malwarebytes, and then run Bitdefender Online scanner.

The only other thing that may be trouble is that there may be a rootkit that neither scanner will detect. You can run Combofix, but this program isn't for the average user. Follow instructions carefully when using Combofix.

Unable too logg into the system

sounds like a hard disk issue try booting from the original s install disk . the see if you can reapir the installtion
if it still can recognise the disk you probably have a hard disk problem. Eithe buy or get a techical person to call out and check the hard disk for you.
if you have win xp boot to the cd then choose repair at the first menu , when you get to the dos screen type in

chkdsk /f and let it do what it must to complete.

hope this helps
