IGNITER WONT CUT OFF AND THE COMPONIT FOR THE OVEN WONT LIGHT UP. IF YOU TOUCH THE BURNER IT WILL SHOCK YOU

This can be caused by a weak/inop hot surface igniter or a defective gas control valve.

One thing that you can try(be very careful doing this) is to give the gas control valve a light tap with something hard like a wrench when the oven is turned on and the igniter is glowing but the burner is not on. You will need to remove the broiler/storage drawer at the bottom of the oven. Once you pull the drawer out you should see the gas control valve at the back of the range. Try turning on the oven and lightly tapping the valve housing after the igniter is fully on. This may loosen up any debris inside the control valve housing that might be causing the problem. If the oven burner comes on then try completely turning the oven on and back of several times. And when I say completely I mean turn it on after the igniter is not glowing and burner has shut off. This works about 30% of the time. If the burner control valve sticks again after trying this procedure(burner does not come on) then it could be the control valve and/or the hot surface igniter defective. The hot surface igniter would need to be disconnected from it's harness and tested with an OHM meter. Most igniters should have a 500 to 700 OHM reading. If you get a reading that is way off then the igniter is defective and replace it. If the igniter tests good then the gas control valve is suspect and replace it. Most appliance parts retailers will test your igniter for free. When the igniter is on it should glow very brightly. If it is dim then that is a sure sign it is bad. You can also verify that the oven run-away valve is not closed. This valve will be located at the back bottom of the range at the gas regulator. There will be a tab on the regulator housing where the gas pipe goes to the oven. This tab will lift up to close gas flow to the oven. Sometimes these valves can stick causing the oven to stop working. You can try moving this tab back and forth to see if it loosens any debris in the valve. Move the valve while the oven is on and you will be able to hear the burner come on after moving the valve if that was the problem.

The gas odor is going to be caused by unburned gas due to a by-passing gas control valve or a weak igniter(not lighting the gas coming from burner) First you will need to verify that the hot surface igniter is coming on(you should see it glow in the burner compartment). If it is not glowing then you will need to verify that the wiring harness has voltage to it when the oven thermostat is on. Also check the igniter for any cracks or damage and if found then replace the igniter. Also inspect the burner venturii and burner orfice for any possible debris(grease,lint ect) that could be restricting gas flow. One more thing you can try is to manually light the burner. Make sure the oven and burner compartment are COMPLETELY cleared out of gas. Then make sure there is a flame from a match or lighter right next to the burner where the igniter is located(it is best to use a long fireplace match) before starting oven. Once the flame is lit and next to the burner then turn on the oven thermostat and listen for the flow of gas. Once the flow has started the oven burner should light immediately! If the burner does not light within 2 seconds the remove the flame and shut down the oven. If the burner lights with the match then either the igniter is not hot enough to light the burner or there might be a restriction in the burner head blocking the flow of gas to the hot surface igniter...or a restriction in the venturri or orfice. You will need to be extremely careful performing these procedures! If you are smelling gas then the oven and burner compartment could fill up with enough gas to cause a delayed ignition! You could get burned or seriously injured so I advise you not to try these procedures if you are not experienced with gas appliances. You are taking your own risk trying these procedures and if you feel uncomfortable trying these then I suggest call a professional.

On gas ovens, a glo igniter is like a light bulb, the more you cook, the faster it wears out. Bottom line, needs to be replaced. Good luck.

If you have a electric igniter ignition system, (no pilot light flame is used) you probably have a burned out igniter. It has two wires connected to it, located at the rear of the burner, below the burner mantle. Two 1/4" screws secure it. Replcaement igniters cost 18-25 dollars. Use your oven model number to make sure you buy the right one. Cut the two wires off the old one and use the ceramic wire nuts supplied with the new ingiter to wire it up like new.

you should have an igniter set up in the oven follow the the front of the burner to the end (back) you should see the igniter follow the wires from the igniter to the elec- safety valve unplug those two wires and tape them together make sure stove is unplugged before you start his process. now plug in oven does igniter light if yes safety valve is bad if no unplug oven from outlet unwrap tapped wires and reinstall them where they came from it would help if you had a ohm meter cut th wires coming out of the igniter not too short in case you have to reconnect them but you will need ceramic wire nuts the do not melt after you cut the wires from the igniter check for continuity @ the igniter no continuity means bad igniter ,i doubt the thermostat is bad but we can troubleshoot it tommorrow if these steps dont work

Almost always a weak oven igniter. Remove oven floor by removing 2 screws at rear of floor. Remove flame spreader from burner, if it has one. Turn on oven and see if igniter gets red. It's the caged thing on burner tube. If it does but doesn't light gas, replace igniter. UNPLUG UNIT FIRST!!
Put dishwashing soap on threads of 2 screws holding igniter in place. This will allow it to come out easier. Do-not use oil. It will make your oven smell like a diesel truck.
Remove screws. You will have to remove drawer in front. Underneath you can fin wires from igniter. These will be cut at igniter and connected to igniter with enclosed wire nuts. The 2 wires to igniter go either way.

You probably have a week oven igniter. Unplug unit first!!
Remove oven floor. Remove flame spreader. Igniter is attached to side od burner tube. It removes with 2 screws. Remove drawer to access connections. New igniter will come with wire nuts. Cut wires at old igniter, strip back insulation and connect to new igniter. The 2 wires can go either way. Re-assemble and test.
