How do I attach this monitor to my laptop to use it as a second screen Please?

Since the laptop works fine with an attached monitor, it means the problem is the inverter.

The problem with your laptop screen is that the inverter is malfunctioning, that is why you have those three equal horizontal sections.

Change the inverter of your laptop screen and you will see that the screen will be stable back.

• Attach two monitor and switch on the laptop
• automatically second monitor will show diplay
• if not then find out dual display symbol on the taskbar click on it.
• window will open select dual monitor
• click apply
• if not then right click on desktop --properties--desktop two monitors symbol will see select 2nd monitor

Attaching a second monitor to a Laptop, if its fairly new, will automatically load a second display. Right click the background on your LAPTOP screen and select properties after you attach the monitor cable. Go to settings. You should see two monitors. If not, you need to press Fn+ F6 on most Laptops to activate the second monitor. See your owner's manual on function key (Fn) Choose the second monitor screen and set the desired resolution.

You can attach a external monitor to it yes. Once you have purchased a monitor and attached it than you press Fn F4 should be twice to use both monitors. Please make sure you have a video component on your laptop so you can arttach the second monitor.

1st off there is a Fn key, I think Fn + F5? to turn the monitor on. It is a toggle button that toggles between only the monitor or monitor and Laptop screen both or just the laptop screen.

I hope that can help, if not, please tell me what you have tried. As in, does the monitor work on another PC/Laptop?

I'm not sure if your referring to the lcd monitor (gateway brand) or a laptop's lcd screen not working anymore.

1. if it's an lcd monitor...
a. test monitor in a different pc before assuming the problem is the lcd screen
b. replace the monitor if after testing monitor is in deed the item failing.

2. if it's the lcd screen from your gateway laptop.
a. you may be able to attach a regular analog monitor to the paralel port on your gateway.. test and see if the monitor that you attach will give you a picture (you may have to toggle with some some keys on your laptop keyboard to make have the signal going to the "externa" or attached monitor.
if the other monitor does not work either.. you video controller on your motherboard on your laptop may be failing and you may not have other options that to replace your laptop.
b. if the external/attached monitor works.. very likely the problem is the lcd screen for that you need to get a replacement and you may have to contact gateway to find out about pricing (or places to send your laptop for service if you're still within warranty). if you have an old laptop you may have to considere simply replacing the unit as buying a new lcd screen may very likely be more expensive than the same working laptop.

You have a failed inverter circuit. This is a very common fault with BenQ and other LCD monitors. I have seen more FP737 and FP731's and all their cousins in the last 2 years then I care to count.

You will be best to take it to a TV technician and have them do the repair. There are ways to fix it yourself, but the chances of success are not great without a decent amount of electronic knowledge.

Call several places and get approx quotes based on the inverter fault. A lot of TV techs will not work on LCD monitors and is another good reason to call around first.

One final thing, check the manufacture date on the back of the monitor, these normally come with a 3 year warranty and it will be either expired now, or very close to it. If it is still under warranty, then contact BenQ near you to facilitate the repairs.
