SOURCE: Check engine light comes on. p0171 and p0351 codes found

From Lusty Kid:

I know the economy is bad, but change all of the plugs. Check your PCV Valve hose, 150 rottens them out allowing air to be sucked in, thus all kinds of codes.

Depending on mileage. Dismount the EGR valve and clean passages. If you are really good dismount the throtle position sensor body and clean out passages with Choke Cleaner., dismount where the EGR valves connects to the engine, clean out passages. Also check the hose thats behind this mounting to ensure is not clogged. If clogged clean it out. If not replace it. Is about 1.5 ft. long, connects to the PCV Valve Hose.

When is the last time you change your harness. Can't remember??? Replace it. Good Luck

98 ford ranger supercab xlt 2.5 spark plug wiring diagram

I will read the SM service manual to you now.
firing order 1,3,4,2
most cars with old coil packs 4 cylinders is just one pack
not coils but yes 2 coils in 1 pack run 4 cylinders, using wasted spark tech.
oops this old dog run 8 spark plugs now that is different.
and here it is from the book
we do know 1 and 4 fire as one and 3 and 2 first as one pair too.
I sure hope the 2 coils fire, the same way.
no lag. coil 1 spark 1, to coil 2 spark 1. hummmmm
yes tricky see these sage words. from the SM

Dual Plug Inhibit (DPI) is a function of the powertrain control module that is used when the vehicle is being started. During engine cranking, the powertrain control module will only fire the spark plugs on the right-hand side of the engine.Whenthe engine has started, the powertrain control module will start normal twin-plug operation.

I have a 2003 Ford f150 with a 5.4 . Missing at idle . Showing 300 code. Random misfire. Sometimes 301 and sometimes 303. Where should I start ?

Start by replacing coil and spark plugs for cylinders number 1 and 3 . That would be 1st and 3rd cylinders on drivers side . TIP OF THE DAY
ALWAYS SPRAY SOME WD40 DOWN THE Hole so the spark plugs come out easily.
Good luck

Misfired cylinder 6, replaced coil, plug Misfired cylinder 5, replaced coil, plug Misfired unsure which yet, all of these happening within a week. It will run fine for a day or so after rep

change all plugs with proper ones - they are picky for some reason - do not change number or brand from original - coils were probably ok, - get some injector cleaner and run through it but check for exhaust leak at e g r tube - is a common over looked cause of misfire - a thing to keep in mind is misfire isn't always spark issue. hope I was of some help

Nissan Maxima 2000 Year model A33 3 Litre 55000KM Sometimes when starting hot or cold, engine runs rough as though miss fireing on 1 or 2 cylinders, after a few revs it settles to normal. Also...

most likley a ignition coil is failing, is unfortunatly common for the A33 maxima. these engine have 6 coils, one for each cylinder. the only way to work out which of the 6 is the faulty one is to remove the little cover over the front bank of spark plugs, has 4 allen key bolts, then you can see the front 3 coils and the rear 3 are inbetween the manifold pipes. each coil wiring will have a button/leaver on the connectors (i think they are green) and if you push this in will release connector.
when the engine is missfireing unplug one coil at a time then reconnect after. if the engine runs worse that coil is working. if you unplug 1 that makes no change, that is the the one thats not working. replace the coil and the spark plug.
do not worrry, there is only 12volts at these connectors, not spark plug voltage

I have a 2002 TrailBlazer with the straight 6,diognostic check said #3 cylinder was dead or misfiring, also map sensor showed up. #3 cylinder was misfiring, so to test the coil pack I swapped #3 coil pack...

did you replace only one spark plug? that can cause issues because of differences in resistances between cylinders. also, did the map code stay off after replacing

Missfire in cylinder 2

I assume you know the problem is a misfire in #2 cylinder from checking the diagnostics code. Although these codes can be helpful in narrowing down a problem they lack specific details. In the case there are several possible items that could trigger the engine fault code P0302

These include:
  • Faulty spark plug or wire
  • Faulty coil (pack)
  • Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
  • Faulty fuel injector
  • Burned exhaust valve
  • Faulty catalytic converter(s)
  • Running out of fuel
  • Poor compression
  • Defective computer
Before you spend any money to resolve this you need to narrow this list down even more. Start by pulling the plug. Do a image web search on "spark plug diagnosis". This will give you pictures of plugs with a variety of problems to compare with yours and give you an indication whether or not the plugs need replacing. Next if possible switch #2 plug wire with another. Make sure you switch both ends (coil end and spark plug end) of the spark plug wire.
These are the no or low cost options. Beyond these you will need to start replacing items like the Ignition Coil and O2 sensor.
If you are still having the problem after checking and/or replacing the items listed above, your next step is a compression test on #2 cylinder.
If you get to this point please repost here with the results with the wires and plugs and I will give you the steps to follow with compression testing.
Hope this helps.

93 oldsmobile quad 4 2.3 one piston is not working wet spark plug

If you have a stethoscope, listen to the injector while the vehicle is running, it could be stuck open. If you hear it pulsing the same as the rest of the injectors, then unplug it, let the engine run so it can get all of the unburned fuel out of cylinder (you said the plug was wet), take the plug and coil from cylinder number three, install them in cylinder # 4, put the coil/plug from 4 into 3, reconnect the injector, and see if the problem moves to cylinder three. Next if the problem does not move to cylinder 3, then you have an issue with either the wiring to the connector at cylinder # 4, or you have a mechanical failure. Remove the valve cover, check the valve springs on # 4. make sure they look the same as all others. If so, turn the crank and further inspect them. If they are mangled, remove the head. It needs to be repaired, and check the piston for damage. You could also do a compression check to rule this out.
