Question about Refrigerators

Our icemaker cannot make ice so we were using small ice in the ice dispenser. Now the ice dispenser does not work. When we first started having trouble with the ice maker we immediately changed the filter but that did not seem to help. We have model #106.5666250. Is this a $big$ fix or is it affordable? Thank you

It looks like you have two problems,
1. do you hear a sound when you try to dispense ice?open the frzr dr and press in the light switch and then have some one else press for ice.you should be able to see and hear the auger turn inside your ice container.if turning but not dispensing ice, remove your container by pressing the blue button on the side.now go ahead and flush container w/hot water. then dry it and reinstall it. you might have store bought ice stuck in it.
if motor sounds like it's stuck and auger not turning, then replace motor part#

Both of those are controlled by a voltage signal sent to the back and rear near floor of the back of your refrigerator. The part is a water control valve. When you press the dispense water button the valve if not defective will open and allow water to travel through the bottom fresh food section water reservoir to the cup. When the ice maker dumps fresh cubes to the tray to store foe dispensing ice it also opens the valve for its side fore just enough time to refill the ice maker. Then the ice maker waits until it senses frozen ice and begins the cycle by heating elements below it to loosen the cubes to begin the cycle again. So get someone to unplug the side on pack and put the probes of a multimeter into each female side and press dispense, you should see 120 volts there. If not the dual water control valve needs replaced. Part Number 4389177

You also can test the ice maker by filling with tap water and wait untill it freezes. If it dumps into storage and don't refill with water you know for sure the water valve is at fault. Thanks, Sea Breeze

I did miss the ice dispenser part I thought you said the water dispenser. If the door switch is bad it will cause the problem. I don't understand the part about the small ice in the bin. Was it making ice and suddenly stop? You don't need to change the auger motor you do need to see if power is sent to the auger motor with with the door switch pressed while someone presses the dispense ice button. But if the door switch is faulty that also will cause this. When the door is open it will turn off the control panel at the fountain but if the door switch is not telling the refrigerator the door is closed that will disable the controls at the fountain. But the ice maker on some the ice maker is disabled when the door is open while others the ice maker will be on even with door open.. If you need any help just let Robert3508 know. We will be here. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Icemaker is making ice but will not dispense. continues to accumulate then over time ice in the bottom of the dispenser will freeze

I can think of two possible problems. The ice has frozen together and will not allow the ice screw to push the ice out the dispenser. Or the motor for the ice screw is broken.
1. Shut off icemaker with lever at icemaker
2. Remove ice container (either throw away ice or save in another container).
3. Put back empty ice container.
4. Leave ice maker off for about an hour.
5. After an hour , check if motor is working by trying to dispense ice. You should not expect any ice but you should hear the motor /auger moving.
A) If you do not hear any thing , you need to get your motor replaced.
B) If you hear the motor , mostlikely you had an ice dam which prevented the ice dispense from working..You can turn you icemaker on.

Water dispenser has ceased dispensing water.

Water tube is frozen inside the door. Bad design. I use boiling water, a small plastic flexible tube and appropriate plastic syringe to force very hot water into the tube pushing the small tube into the dispenser tube. At some point it will stop because of the Ice blockage, more hot water through the small tube will soon unblock the line. A retrofit "heater" was available at appliance parts stores. I installed one. It stopped working and I haven't bothered with another. The Ice supply line is separate from the water dispenser and Y's somewhere to get water into the hinge for the door access to the Water dispenser in the door. Hope this helps.

I have just purchased a Samsung 636L Refrigerator and my icemaker doesn't seem to work. Help please.

Hello Roseanna;
My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.
I require the complete model number to see what you have. The model number is on the wall in the fresh food (refrigerator section)
First, if you have just purchased this unit is it is under warrantee, where a service technician will come to your home at no charge and fix the problem.
I am going to take a guess, having serviced Samsung refrigerators for years, the type icemaker that you have. I believe you may have a ice maker in a small compartment.
Usually a ice maker will start after the temperature is above 40 degrees F. If this is the ice maker I think it is; in the front of the ice maker, on the bottom, there is a small red square button. This is the ice maker cycle button.
Push the cycle button and listen to hear the water fill the icemaker. Hopefully, the installers had just never done this.
Do you have a water dispenser? Is the water dispensing?
If you do not have a water dispenser, then perhaps the installers either did not connect the water line nor turned the water valve to open.
If the ice maker does not cycle, and the water supply is open, chances are you have a bad ice maker.
I have gone on service calls where the unit was delivered one day and I am there the every next day. On these service call I have found bad compressors, bad control boards, and yes - bad ice makers.

Ice maker stopped dispensing

Refrigerator - Icemaker Not Dispensing,or Not Making Ice Check that the feeler arm on the icemaker is in the down position and is not blocked. If the icemaker does not have a feeler arm make sure the icemaker paddle is not blocked under the icemaker. For more information on the causes of new icemakers not making ice. For more information on normal ice production. Side by Side models: The filter may be loaded with sediment that can cause low water pressure. The water pressure must be between 40 and 120 psi. Pressures below 40 psi may cause a malfunction of the icemaker (i.e. producing hollow cubes or no ice production). Test the water pressure: Dispense water from the dispenser into a large measuring cup for 20 seconds. If the measuring cup contains less than 13.5 ounces (400 metric centimeters), the water flow is inadequate. If the amount of water is less than 13.5 ounces then the refrigerator fails the test, remove the filter and test the refrigerator again with the by-pass plug in place. If the refrigerator dispenses the proper amount of water with the by-pass plug in place, then the filter should be replaced. If you no longer have the by-pass plug and it has been over three months since the filter has been replaced, you should replace the filter. If the refrigerator fails the test again and you know you have the proper water pressure in your home, you should call service to check the refrigerator. If the amount of water collected is over 13.5 ounces then the refrigerator passes the test and the dispenser is working correctly. Ice not Dispensing Due To Clumping Ice: Your dispenser may not be dispensing due to clumping ice cubes. The ice cubes in your icemaker may be clumping for a couple of reasons: Low food load: The defrost cycle radiates heat into the freezer. The ice in the freezer will naturally absorb the heat. This will cause the ice to melt slightly during defrost, then eventually freeze together in clumps. Increasing the food load in the freezer will buffer the warmth from the defrost cycle and keeps the ice from melting. Lack of use: When the ice bin is full, the pressure from the weight of the cubes can cause the bottom cubes to fuse and clump. To prevent this from happening, discard the clumped ice and check the bin periodically to ensure the ice is not building up. If you do not use a large amount of ice, move the feeler arm on the icemaker to the up position to turn off the icemaker and stop ice production. For more information on the causes of clumping cubes. If the ice bucket is not seated correctly, ice will not dispense properly. Make sure the ice bucket is in the correct position. Refer to Use & Care manual.

I have a GE Profile refrigerator, Model PFSS6PKWBSS, with icemaker on door. Water is collecting under Deli-draw and leaking down freezer door onto floor. How do I fix leak?

Hi

Try and access the ice dispenser assembly and check from where the water is leaking. You would need to disassemble the ice dispenser and ice maker to check this. The ice dispenser is located in the upper portion of the freezer compartment. This assembly stores ice made by the icemaker and dispenses ice on demand from the door dispenser target switch.
1. Remove the upper ice bucket tray.
2. Slide out the ice dispenser assembly.
3. Remove the ice cube solenoid linkage Phillips head screw and slide the linkage back.
4. Remove the ice crusher cover Phillips head screws (2) and remove the cover.
5. With a pair of pliers, twist off the backing plate tabs located on either side of the crusher.
6. With 2 small flat-blade screwdrivers, unlock the ice crusher locking tabs located at either side of the ice crusher.
7. Lift the ice crusher out of the bucket.
8. Remove the ice crusher back cover.
9. Remove the locking ring from the ice crusher auger.
10. Remove the plastic nut with a pair of pliers by turning it clockwise.
11. Remove the spacers and blades. The blades are numbered for reassembly.

Icemaker--
The icemaker is located in the upper rear of the freezer compartment and supplies ice to the dispenser tub.
1. Disconnect the icemaker cable connector.
2. Remove 1/4-in. icemaker mounting screws and slide out the icemaker.
This refrigerator is equipped with an Electronic Icemaker.

Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Door icemaker will not dispense ice. Motor starts

At the very least you have worn out coupler components. Determine what the motor issue is and replace it if necessary also.

Icemaker not working, but water dispenser is

Water valve has separate coils for water to door and to icemaker. If icemaker is cycling the valve is likely the problem.

Automatic icemaker

Have you made sure your water supply was good and a good steady flow of water is flowing in to the back orf the fridge?/ If you have then theres a small micro switch that opens a water valve at the proper moment of the cycle of the ice maker. This switch is inside the icemaker up against a small cam being driven by a small motor. The switch activates a small valve that lets the water flow into the ice maker.if the water flow is good its the switch or the valve. Good luck
