Question about Sony VAIO VGP-WKB1 Keyboard

1 Answer

How to reattach the F12 key on my Sony Vaio laptop. My cat scratched my F12 key off of the laptop. There is a little white plastic square frame loose on top of the key.Pressing the key pad down on top of the key structure does not work. I can't use the keyboard as the laptop does not recognize my keystrokes on the right side of the keyboard.

Sounds like the cat did more then just damage the F12 key. If the plastic connectors underneath the F12 are damaged or the white tactile is damaged then they keyboard is done in that aspect. What worries me more is that the right hand side of the keyboard is not usable.

What needs to happen is the keyboard needs to be taken out and reseated back into its slot on the motherboard and see if you can use all of the keys again minus the F12.

If you can then use the keyboard until you can get another one.

If you get the same results (not being able to use the right hand side of the keyboard) then the keyboard is bad and would need to be replaced ASAP or you can use an external usb keyboard for now.

How do i restoe it with out cd

If you Have not Wipe out your Hard drive then here is the steps
1.Restart your Sony Vaio if it is already on. If it's off, turn it on.
2.Press the F12 key on your Sony Vaio keyboard. This will enter the computer into the built-in restore mode. Note that depending on the model of Sony Vaio, you may have to press either the F11 key or the ESC key to enter this restore mode. This must be done before your operating system begins to load. If you see the Windows logo appear on screen, you'll have to restart and try again.

And Follow the instruction on the Screen

Where do i find the wireless connection button on a vaio

Maybe you don't have your wireless turned on. Look onboth sides and in front for the Wireless Switch and turn it on.

Also once the wireless switch is turned on there are keystrokes that can togglethe wireless on or off. Normally you would Press and Hold the FN functionkey located at the lower left of the keyboard, then hit the correct F1 thru F12key that toggles the wireless. The correct F1 thru F12 key to hit willhave the wireless signal icon )))) on it. Or it might have the icon of a towerwith the wireless signal icon )))). Normally the screen will displayWireless On or Wireless Off when you toggle the wireless.
Some laptops don't have wireless buttons. You toggle it by the keystrokes described above. If there is a wireless button it will be located above the keyboard, on the sides or in front of the laptop.
According to your manual, the wireless switch is on the side of the laptop. See page 15 of the manual. I have provided a link below for the manual.

Explain could not run it's TV please? Are you saying you cannot connect the laptop to a TV?

Have you selected PC or HDMI as your input source on the TV? Have you hit the FN Function Key on the laptop + the corresponding F1 thru F12 key that displays the image on the TV?

Press and Hold the FN key then hit the correct F1 thru F12 key that displays on the tv. The correct F1 thru F12 key will probably have LCD/CRT on it or it might have the icon of a display.

How do i reattach the shift key on my sony vaio it seems impossible

Indeed it does. When one of the keys on my laptop popped off I tried for hours to reattach it to no avail. Taking it to a repair clinic I was told that they couldn't reattach a single key either and that a new keyboard would have to be ordered and installed at a cost of almost half the cost of the original laptop purchase price. Fortunately, the laptop was still under warranty so the repair was made in a few days for free.

So, where does this leave you? If your computer is still covered by warranty contact Sony Customer Service. If the warranty is expired, a new USB keyboard can be purchased very inexpensively wherever computers and computer accessories are sold.

I am looking for a full set of Vaio PcG 7Q6P White keyboard keys. My son has pulled some off and lost them. Any idea where I can locate a set?

You may find it easier and less expensive to just replace the keyboard. Ofter, when keys are "pulled off" the plastic springs under the keys break. Keyboards are available on Ebay and are not difficult to install.

Reattach Shift key

If it's the same as mine, there is a little white plastic frame that sits under the mouse... Make sure the frame is attached to the underside of the mouse key, and press into position on the keyboard, pushing down onto the REAR of the button first, until you hear it click, then do the same to the front.

Sony vaio scratches

You are looking at an expensive proposition. Check with the sonypartsstore.com and see if the parts are available and in your color of preference. I can tell you that replacing plastic parts on a Sony is very very expensive. You may be better off selling your Sony and looking for a new or used one in your color choice.
