Question about Black & Decker 7448 1/3 Sheet Orbital Finishing Sander

1 Answer

Black and Decker 7448 1/3 sheet sander. I have several of them. They are the older type. They are faster and smaller...get into places easier. Problem the pads are worn. Pad is 71/2 by 31/4. The new 7448's are not made as good or work as good. That pad is smaller than the older models. Is there some way to get ahold of the old pads? Thanks, BB

How to change brushes on a Black & Decker 7450 belt sander

You will need to take the right hand cover off of the tool, You might be able to access the brushed by removing the smaller motor cover. The design changed several times on this sander. I have included an image showing the brush locations..

Black and decker 7404 what sheets do i get

The standard sheets for this sander will be the same width as the bottom pad and about 1-2" longer. The sheets clamps under the clips at each end. Use a screwdriver to leverage the clamp up allowing the sheet to be inserted under the clamp and then let it down to clamp the sheet in place. On many older units, these clamps get weak over time and this can cause the sheet to slip out. By folding the end of the sheet over a time or two, this will make a small section of the sheet thicker and will help the clamp to hold it in place.

There is also a link here http://www.ehow.com/how_8384633_change-decker-7404-finishing-sander.html to change the sheet which is basically the same thing.

The actual pre-cut sanding sheets will be advertised as 1/3 sheet such as this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00448EZ32?psc=1

It can be cheaper to by full sized sheets and cut them down as needed as you will get more bang for the buck.

Yes, I am on my 3rd one. Your machine has destroyed itself, and must be replaced. Sorry about that. If you choose to do so, you can take it apart and see what I mean. ( I fix these).
Be blessed..

Black & decker 7448 sander sounds & smells like motor ceased up. only makes a humming noise & feels hot.

could have had a bearing problem that caused the motor to cease up, It might be time for a new one unless you are handy, if so I suggest going to dewaltservicenet.com and downloading a breakdown for the tool and make note of how you disassemble it to find the problem, If it is the armature or field it might cost less to replace it.

I am recently widowed and don't know how to get the sand paper out of and onto the sander

At both ends of the bottom pad, there are metal fittings that have a rectangular hole in the middle of them. Take a regular head screwdriver and put the tip in the hole and carefully but firmly lift up and hold while at the same time pushing the narrow edge of the 1/3 sheet sandpaper up under the metal piece which kind of looks like a C on its edge. Then let down the metal piece with the screwdriver and that edge of the sand paper should be held in place. Do the same thing for the other end of the sandpaper, making sure to pull the sandpaper sheet tight against the rubber pad.

Black and decker model 7404 1/3 sheet sander - not orbiting

wear inhibitor part number 86355 has broken on you. When this part brakes it brakes into tiny pieces which then leave the case so it hard to tell whats wrong. They don't make this part any more as the 7404 was discontinued in October 1975. I hoped this helped. I have the same problem.
