Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP90 Gas Kitchen Range

Burner knobs melt on GE Profile XL44 gas range.

Two plastic burner knobs have melted. I believe it happened as a result of having the oven door open during broiling, but I'm not certain. I want to replace them with a heavier metal knob, but have not been able to find one that is compatible. Please advise. Thank you.

I had the same problem and searched extensively for a solution. They even have a video from GE on the net telling you how to avoid melting them, which is basically don't open to broil and make sure the seal is good on the oven. Essentially, don't use their oven normally like the rest of the ovens in the world. Finally I went to a few show rooms to look for a knob to substitute for the garbage ones from GE. On one of the new models they have a solid cast stainless knob (with a plastic shaft, I think it is delrin) which looks identical but has a longer shaft. I obtained the PN which is WB03T10262 and ordered one. I trimmed the shaft length to match the length of the defective knob with a hack saw, and had to trim out some mold flashing in the cavity. After a couple of fittings I was finshed and it looks fine. I then ordered 3 more from the Appliance Zone for $15.98 each. GE's price for the same part was $25.25!!

I was told by a GE repair man that the damage was done not by heat but by the degreaser soap I used to clean the knobs. He said I could use only liquid dish washing soap on them. They should be made of stainless steel. I will never buy a stove with plastic control knobs again. I wish someone had told me that the ones on my stainless stove were actually made of plastic painted to look like stainless." Let the buyer beware."

More than likely you have a bad oven ignitor. It's not uncommon that they need repalced, they do go bad.

SOURCE: ge profile range knobs melt

Same problem as well. Hoping to buy universal fit parts as GE wants $16/piece (x6) to replace the knobs. They WILL NOT cover under warranty.

HORRIBLE SUPPORT, POOR QUALITY PRODUCT!

The oven pilot does not light. The broiler will not work. The only thing that does is the light. GE XL44 range. The burners light and the pilots stay lit.

If you have standing pilots, make sure the pilot for the oven/broiler is lit as well.  When you turn the thermostat up to call for heat, you should see the pilot get larger. That larger pilot flame heats a hydraulic sensor and opens the main burner valve.

Lower oven burner will not light.

Hi I have a older GE that the oven won't light. It is a gas range that is electric ignited. The top burners do work but the oven will not light. Is it pricey to have this fixed?

it's the safety valve, it's bypassing the gas. for you to put soup in there you will have to remove the oven burner. and put the soup on the tip of the orifice that's where the burner sits on.

XL44 GE oven not working. Bottom burner not getting gas.

You probably have a bad ignitor. If the ignitor does not draw at least 3.5 amps the gas valve will not open. This is a safety feature.

    GE XL44 pilot

I dont know if you recieved an answer yet but this is a fairly easy fix. Open your oven door and remove your bottom oven plate. You now should see the burner element running down the middle. at the rear of the burner element is the ignite r (small porcelin bugger with two wires) remove this and replace with a new one GE #WB2X9154 available from the repairclinc.com website for 69.80 plus shipping. i just ordered (2) they seam to go out like clockwork every 2-3 years. To be safe unplug your ovens 110 volt cord first.

    Good Luck

    Stove top pilot light

I have a GE Gas Stove XL44 the stove top buners don't light by themselves without manual lighting. When I turn on the buner knob the buner doesn't click. Also I used my self- cleaning oven for the first time and stopped it before the time was up after that is when the stove top buners wouldn't light by theirselves.
